Legends in the Making: A Review of CST Iota

by Dr. Mitchell Simon, D.C.

Local doctor trains with international champions.

“This certification workshop was the most physically demanding 72 hours I have ever spent. I prepared for months, “getting in-shape”, but a few times I didn’t think I could continue.”

This past weekend, Dr. Mitch Simon, a local chiropractic physician, spent three grueling days training with Coach Scott Sonnon, multiple time Hall of Fame inductee, international martial arts champion and former USA National Team Coach.

Dr. Simon, a black belt since 1984, said “although Coach Sonnon is recognized as the man that masters go to for training advice, only 2 of the 26 hours spent exercising over the three days were focused on the martial arts.”

The martial art clinics were held outside of the regular seminar hours.

“They [martial arts] were not the main focus, but having Coach Sonnon and his Head Coaching Staff all in one place was just too tempting. Joe Wilson, Brandon Jones, Dani’l Chomycia and Ryan Murdock, these guys are legends in the making.” Dr. Simon smiles, “We wouldn’t let them out of there without a little punching, kicking and grappling.”

The primary focus of the 3 day seminar and workshop was the training and certification of health and fitness professionals in CST, which stands for Circular Strength Training®.

Circular Strength Training® is a holistic training belief system that has been utilized by champions over the last ten years. “CST is not just used by martial artists,” claims Dr. Simon. “It is my understanding that CST was first designed to condition combat athletes to be in a constant state of physical preparedness. But now, CST is used by champions in such diverse sports ranging from rowing to skiing.”

“I figure that if CST works so well for the best of the best,” commented Dr. Simon, “then I should make this available to my patients.”

Dr. Simon explains, “CST is a belief system that teaches the integration of breathing, movement, and structure, which is necessary if someone is going to achieve physical
mastery, and the elusive peak performance “Flow State.”

“I believe that mobility, agility, grace and poise are our birthright” Dr. Simon continued to state that, “As a chiropractic physician I can help people get rid of almost any neck, back or joint pain. Using CST for rehabilitation puts patients in control of their progress and gives them the means to recover their joint motions and re-coordinate those joint motions with the rest of their body, so activities of daily living are as effortless and pain free as possible.

CST is composed of three wings – Intu-Flow™ for joint mobility, Clubbells™ for strength, power, and endurance, and Prasara Body Flow Yoga for integrating breathing with movement and achieving flow state.

Intu-Flow™, which means intuitive flow, is a program designed to bring a person from joint recovery to movement mastery. There are four levels of progression in Intu-Flow™: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Mastery.

“Intu-Flow™ is a great joint health and longevity program”, beams Dr. Simon. “I have patients from ages 9 to 89 practicing it.”

“The first few visits in my office we spend decreasing a patient’s pain, then we need to ‘clean the slate’ and recover all joint motions. Some patients need to go through a stage of spinal structural correction to restore the curves of the spine, but eventually most patients are introduced to Intu-Flow™ training principles.”

Movement is necessary for improvement. Since practice makes permanent, and only perfect practice makes for perfect movement, CST requires all certified instructors to lead from the front.

The coaches alternated between intense Clubbell® work, and brief, passive recovery whiteboard teaching sessions, as well as sessions of Prasara Body-Flow™ yoga movements.

“I wasn’t the only exhausted participant,” claims Dr. Simon. “The 22 year old trainer working next to me was sucking wind just as badly.”

Top trainers from eight countries participated in the event.

Dr. Simon offers non-surgical spinal decompression, neck and back pain relief, joint recovery and performance enhancement on a case by case basis. For a free consultation to see if you qualify for care call 800-850-6623.
