The Word Honey is not Sweet
June 23, 2012 – 7:21 amAs a young man, I was brimming with ideas. My teacher said to me, “Mr. Sonnon, first one LIVES. Then, one philosophizes.” Half my current age, I could not fathom his guidance through the chaotic haze of my thoughts.
Now, I realize that he meant to know ABOUT something and to actually know it, involve two entirely different approaches. The former observes and imagines, the latter participates and experiences.
Now, I realize the wisdom underlying my teacher’s simple imperative.
No matter how well many times you write the word “honey” and regardless of how elegant your handwriting, touch the paper to your tongue, and you cannot experience its sweetness.
Don’t just think about it. Go do it. Be it.
