I was just treated to seeing the Cirque du Soleil production of "Varekai" - for the 2nd time.
If you haven't seen a Cirque du Soleil show (I hadn't until this) you really should try to go. It's inspiring as well as entertaining.
I wanted to mention one particular piece in Varekai, which, more than any of the others, reminded me of Coach Sonnon's work.
In the 2nd half of the show, a woman performs a routing that's like a combination of yoga and dance. She incredibly supple, but more than that, her motion - both between forms and as pure dance - is amazingly elegant. She did a few ballet like leaps, and a little Martha Graham-ish movement, and she seemed to temporarily defy gravity (though there wasn't a lot of focus on her abilities in this regard, sadaly).
If you can't see the show, try to check it out on the DVD. I think it's truly beautiful.
