I will be moving to Fort Bragg in a little less than a month from now and was wondering if there are any RMAX tribe members in the area?
I will be joining the 82nd Airborne Division and it looks like I will be in the area at least for a few months before deploying.
I am interested in all aspects of CST and I am particularily interested in exploring some carbine fencing.

What are you using to fence? Label me very very curious. I can tell you Ritz Epps is the best gym to visit. The tank trails behind are awesome. And be very very wary if you get dragged to Cagney's or Itzz...

I will probably get a pair of the wooden bayonet simulators from Purpleheart Armoury: www.woodenswords.com

Thanks for the advice about Bragg. When were you stationed there or are you still there?

Stationed at Lewis now. Was there for two years going through the Q course. I've been gone for a couple of years, but some things never change. If you've got any questions, i can probably answer anything, or ask around.

OK,thanks.
I was at Ft. Lewis for a couple of years and really liked it out there. I take it you are in Special Forces. I got to know a few SF guys while I was out there. You are in an amazing group of professionals.

I'm with 1st group right now. Were you in to carbine fencing or clubbells when you were at lewis? You really have my interest peaked now about carbine fencing.

No, I had never even heard of RMAX or carbine fencing while I was at Ft. Lewis. I have only been studying CST/RMAX since January of this year.

I would encourage you to investigate carbine fencing further as I think its a fascinating area of study. I just recently ordered the "Biomechanics of the Blade" series of video tapes which cover the topic in detail. I'm really looking forward to getting these tapes and learning more about it.

I think it would be a great thing to get more Soldiers involved in this sport. It is in part a reintroduction of an Army tradition.

If you really want to pursue this maybe you could get the Bayonent video series and find some training partners to work with. I am willing to bet you could find more than a few of your fellow SF Soldiers who might be interested . . .

How good duty is in the 82nd can vary depending on the quality of your leadership from battalion on down. I never knew very much about my division or brigade commanders, but with my battalion and company commanders it was a different story.

Stay out of bars that begin with the word "Blue."

The area right around Bragg is the worst spot in NC. The Army must have gotten the cheapest land. Get away from Bragg and NC has some pretty areas.

Every soldier should feel that his unit is the best unit, bar none, with no apologies. You will learn, however, that the 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, aka The Falcon Regiment, really is the best regiment.....:D

As far as how Bragg compares with other duty stations, well, there's Vicenza, Italy, and then there's everything else. ;)

Let's Go!

LMAO! I'd forgotten about that. I was saddened to hear that they closed the Flaming Mug. Penny draft nights on Tuesdays were always fun.

If you play golf though, you'll find a golfers Mecca at Pinehurst, a SOTIC guy I used to spar with got me into playing and its been an addiction ever since.

How true, how true.

I'm originally from Fayetteville NC. My pop was Command Sergeant Major there at the Special Warfare School(Psychological Operations), I believe, back in the early 70's. Fayetteville/Fort Bragg has awesome training opportunities for anyone with a mind to do that due to the active duty military AND the retirees and inactive members who have settled in the area. Many of them were the best when they were in the Army and they make for an extraordinary civilian populace compared to most other cities.
