View Full Version : Jaw clicking and the inner monkey

I occasionally suffer from jaw clicking: when I open the mouth, when chewing food, especially during stressful periods in my life. I've done excercises for the jaw, and they help, instantly: here's how one goes, 'keep the tip of tongue on soft palate, open mouth as far as it will go, hold for 5 secs, while tongue is in contact with palate. Relax, repeat'.
Here's my problem, and I know it happens when I do bodywork that's not 'CST' or 'RMAX': I cannot help trying to make 'funny' movements, of the exact kind that cause the clicks.
I think my mind goes: 'it works, but I don't have a clear picture where this goes next, why shouldn't I play?...'.
Does anyone have a suggestion, hopefully some insight that could quiet the inner monkey?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Peter, what's your caffeine, nicotine and sugar intake?

Nicotine: no
Caffeine: 1 cup/day
Sugar: maybe sky high (someone once said I have a sweet leg...)

Peter, those stimulants often cause and result from TMJ (Doctor, what is TMJ? (http://www.entassociates.com/tmj.htm)) Removing the sugar in most cases has been found to resolve the issue. Get on the nutritional steps of Potatoes Not Prozac by Dr. Kathleen DesMaisons.
