So my Bruiser clubbell showed up today finally and the thing is pure hell!!!! I should've gotten the 25er instead but what the hell! Anyways, I can only manage to do a few movements from ABC with it. I'm mostly doing cleans to order position and some cleans to shoulder park. My form is obviously a little looser that Doug's, but it's all I can manage!

Question for Scott! Have you encountered people who have progressed on a clubbell that is totally out of their league. I'm humbled here to say the least, but I want to use the thing to the best of my ability. If I had the cash, I'd get a 25er, but the bruiser set me back some!

Scott's right folks! "You cannot lie to the Bruiser!"

The first time I grabbed the 15's they were out of my league.

Then again when I first grabbed the 25's they were out of my league.

The trick is to do what you can with it until you can do more. Sounds basic I know, but stick to the grossest motor movements until you learn how to better control that beast.

Good luck.

Just chew slowly... you'll be alright. Use it to prime the CNS by working with swings, swings and more swings.

I did my first workout tonight before going out for Chinese New Year. Basically, I did some sets of front cleans to order and to shoulder park. It's really fun actually, my abs, arms and shoulders really felt it.

I alternated my grip too, it's a tad tough getting the shoulder park correct when using a left handed grip.

Doug! Great to hear from you. The ABC manual is GREAT!! I have a new found respect for you, Coach Sonnon and others who regularly use the Bruiser.

Just out of curiosity, how big are the both of you guys?

If I might add, Greasing the Groove and short static holds will help get you up to speed quickly, at least in my experience.

Enjoy,

Rufus

By GTG, you mean doing a bit each day right? I was thinking about doing that, but I remember reading a thread where Scott said that infrequent training sessions are good for those trying to get used to a much heavier club.

If size means anything at all, I'm only 5'7"-5'8" and btwn. 165-170 lbs. I bought the bruiser for increased functional strength, size and to have fun while doing it.

This morning, my hands are a bit sore along with my abs and of all things, my biceps. My bi's haven't been sore in years.

Glad to see your enthusiasm for the ABCs Mike :D

Yoda had it right when he said, "Size matters not." But since you ask, I'm 5'11" and currently tipping the scales at about 240. I'm enjoying a huge growth cycle right now as a result of my OCS training and luckily for me i'm in the 220+ weight category so I don't have to worry about jumping weight classes. Now all I've got to do is figure out how to make the numbers for IMS at the first OCS Championships in two weeks. I'm nearly there but it is taking everything that I have.

Keep up the good work with the ABCs, I'll be joining you in practicing them after OCS.

Now I know why this thing is called the BRUISER! My traps are a lovely shade of purple from the shoulder park! :D

That sounds painful dude, be sure and dip those knees and breath out when you catch it in shoulder park.

It's mostly on my left shoulder because I had some trouble with my coordination going to the left. Once I strengthen my grip and wrist some more, I think I'll be much better off!

Another tip from the seminar - when you choke up on the Bruiser don't slide both hands up. Keep one at the bottom and slide the other up, so their separated. That will give you much better control.

Thanks Bill, I gave the Ty Cobb a shot last night, you're right about how much more controlled it feels.
