I have been having trouble with some sciatic pain, it's in the left glute and goes down to the end of my rear end, but doesn't go down the leg. It seems that squats, and forward bending seem to aggravate it the most, but it is becoming chronic. It doesn't hurt all the time. If I am laying down or resting it doesn't bother me, or at night when I sleep. But if I stand a lot (which I do all day as a TKD instructor) or sit a lot it gets aggravated. Some training bothers it as well, mostly kicking, squatting movements. Anyway, just wondering what others, if any, have done to alleviate sciatic type pain? I have Intu-Flow and many other RMAX products. Thanks.

Jon,
Judging by your suffrage of a kettlebell lower back chronic tightness and pain, and now sciatica, I suspect that you should have your doc check for a bulging lumbar disc.

To echo Coach Sonnon...
I've just gone through a process with what you describe. If I may say it... go to a doc NOW. If you can drive it that way, get an MRI. The sooner the better. Believe me, if it is a disc, you will regret any delay.
Blessings.

I haven't had an MRI, but have had it checked out. My best friend and training partner is a chiro, and my girlfriend is a physical therapist. Based on what I can and can't do, and the fact that I feel fine a lot it seems to be a muscular issue. However, you guys are right, I have been putting off an mri mostly because I don't want to hear something bad!! I'll try to get it done asap and let you know what happens. Thanks again for the good advice!!

If you are fortunate, it may be a simple case of piriformis syndrome. However, it is always preferable to have a formal evaluation and diagnosis rather than riding on assumption of a "best case" scenario.
If it's just a soft-tissue matter, a good massage therapist can work wonders. If it's more complicated, chiropractic and physical therapy have many additional tools to work with. Good luck!

The advice that has already been given is great. I had a similar problem and managed to get rid of it largely through stretching. My doctor had determined it was only a soft tissue injury. I found sitting on my wallet all day when working on the computer was a major source of prolonging the problem. I now carry my wallet in my jacket or put it in my desk at work if I don't have a jacket. For me, that made the biggest difference in my recovery. I hope all goes well and that the problem is easy to solve.
