Hi, I just did a session of Bikram Yoga tonight and it was quite hard for me and HOT!!! I see on here you do Prasara Yoga.

What are the differences? Is Bikram any good? On the home page it says activities like Yoga can be great but can also cause arthritis.

Can the Coaches shed some light on this for me?

Thanks!

Scotty,

I can't answer for the coaches, but I can give you an answer from one student to another. CST uses intuitive training. Basically, that means you need to pay attention to perceived rate of technique, perceived rate of exertion, and perceived rate of discomfort. On a scale of 1 to 10, RPT should be 8 or higher, RPE around 6, and RPD less than 3. That's unique to the fitness and exercise world. Following that scale will help prevent possible cumulative injuries.

As far as Bikram is concerned (just like with every other type of system), it really depends on your teacher. I had a bad experience with a Bikram teacher, but that isn't to say the whole system is bad. If your teacher says something like, "If it hurts, that's a good thing," or "If you're dizzy, good," then it might be best to find a different teacher.

Scotty,

If you're looking for general information on what Prasara is, I would use the search feature on the forums. I would start by going into advanced search, looking for the word "Prasara" and limit it to the Member Article Archive - at least at first.

For opinions on hot yoga, I'd like to recommend Coach Hurst's excellent article on the subject, Hot and Simple (http://www.rmaxinternational.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12091).

I also did a search on "Bikram" and found this good one by James Boelter:

I encourage you to do a search too!
