Re: Scott Sonnon's Products/ Any other Similar Products Revi

Hello:

Yes, wading through the large collection of information at rmax can get confusing.

Although its not fair to put Scott’s work in “simple” terms, I will try and make it as cut and dry as possible to at least give you a general direction of where to head.

I will say upfront that I have no association with Scott or rmax other than having purchased a lot of his products and meeting him once at a strength clinic.

There are two distinct areas (in my opinion) to the products:

Martial arts/combat sports related
Health and fitness/strength

Virtually everything on the site has its fundamental basis in Russian methodology especially with the Zdorovye health system.

The Z system can best be described as an ancient Russian version of yoga but with more of an emphasis on dynamic rather than static movement. Breathing and spinal alignment are also heavily stressed in the Z system. Range of motion, joint mobility, efficiency of movement are all cornerstones of the Z system.

In the health and fitness/strength category you have:

The Z system tapes – a comprehensive encyclopedia of Z system joint mobility and breathing drills. No routines or recommendations here, just lots of demonstrations of lots of exercises.

Warrior Wellness – takes the joint mobility drills of the Z system and puts them into three total body routines based on different levels of complexity, i.e. beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Be Breathed – a tape specifically about the breathing exercises/drills from Z system.

Body Flow and Maximology are, from what I have heard more like updated versions of the Z system tapes. They are his most recent work and reflect the most up to date methods as Scott is continually refining exercises in order to get best results.

These two products also get into what are called kinetic chains which is basically weaving together multiple movement exercises into one continuous motion – picture a cross between martial arts katas and breakdancing

Also in the strength category are the clubbell books and videos. These are pretty self-explanatory – they teach you to use the clubbells and put together routines.

In the Martial Arts/Combat Sports improvement category are some excellent videos:

Fisticuffs – deals with upper body striking and footwork
Leg Fencing – deals with lower body striking
Grapplers Toolbox – range of motion and movement efficiency techniques from a wrestler/grappler’s standpoint
Immovable Object Unstoppable Force – deals with throws and takedowns
Shock Ability – how to condition yourself to deal with taking hits
Arthrokinetics – deals with submissions/joint locks, ground fighting

If you are looking for joint mobility/range of motion improvement I would recommend starting with Warrior Wellness. If it works for you and want to get more advanced with it, then consider the Maximology series or Z tapes.

If your interest is combat sports related, then choose the tape series that is most applicable to what your training goals are.

Hope this helps.

Andy
