Id like to share this, and I put it here because it does have to do with diet.

As long as I can remember , I have had an eating disorder. However I don’t know if it has
A name, and I only know one other person who has it, My uncle.
Basically , any food which was considered “a healthy choice” eg, fruit, meat, veg, I had
severe problems putting in my mouth. I now know its all in the mind, however if I was
Asked or FORCED to eat these foods, I would hate the thought of it so much that I would
gag, and at times, vomit.
What I did live on, was. Bread, pastries, (all processed grains) Milk, cereal, cheese, butter
and a daily vitamin supplement.
This was my ENTIRE diet.
We were never a well off family, so treats like soft drink and other sugary foods were
very rarely given to us. (me and my older sister, she ate “normally” )

I was a normal kid. Never over or under weight, No major sickness, loaded with energy
And always out doors playing and riding my bike.
Every check up I had at the doctors, showed that I was a normal healthy kid.
I had an allergy to grass seeds, causing itchy eyes, but that was it.

I was also a “hyperactive” kid , which would now be classed as A.D.D, but after a
Couple of years of me going skitzo, my mum discovered what it was, Coloring, and
sugar. If I had a glass or cordial, id go nuts, and I had developed a inkling for
“burger rings” a bright orange colored, cheese flavored chip.
The coloring in the bright orange style chips was the cause, if I didn’t have the cordial,
or the chips. I was fine. But for the first 2 or 3 years of burko boy, being my first 3 years
of school, put me way behind in studies. I was to busy being the class clown to listen.
My grades never recovered from this. But that’s another story..

I have lived with this diet for the first 18 years of my life. I had it drilled into me that I
was going to die young, because I didn’t eat like everyone else. I got to the point where
I just expected to not make it to age 21. This led to a spate of depression, at age 18-19
which then led to drugs and alcohol, Lots of sugar filled rum, and marijuana, liters of
coca cola each week and generally “bad food choices”.

It was at this point, under the influence of substances, that a mate gave me pizza.
Never having EVER eaten anything like it before.
That’s right, I never even thought of eating it. Id feel sick. However this time, I ate it.
This may sound bizarre but that was a turning point. I fell in love with pizza.
Ate tons of it , along with even more coca-cola, and got quite fat. About 90kg.

Not much changed for years after though. Unemployed , lazy, going nowhere.
Had a few good breaks but that is, again, another story.

It wasn’t until about age 26-27 before I started to break out of it all.. off the drugs,
and ‘testing’ new foods. I only just realized that the whole easting problem was

A mental thing when my mate gave me some food, said it was one thing, when it was
another, and I ate it, loved it, then he tells me that it was.. all vegetable.
And because I thought it was what I normally ate, I liked it, and wondered why it
Tasted so different. Heh. :)

From then ive been adding more and more variety and eventually , when starting to train
in taekwondo and hapkido, I became addicted to “Fitness” and wanted to see what I
Could achieve through workouts and diet. Getting it wrong for a while, I eventually
Started reading health mags and martial arts mags that had diet and recovery recipes ,
and eventually found more and more info about food and how the body reacts to what
you eat. And now. Ive just been metabolic typed as a mixed type, and am eating all
organic free range meat and organic veg, low grains, and very low dairy, Learning
heaps about how my body reacts to different foods and
FEELING GREAT!

I am still overcoming the eating mental thing, but life is a lot better now , and I give
many thanks to the people here at RMAX for the inspiration and information.

And the thing is.. What I grew up eating, probably wasn’t that bad. Besides being all
grains and dairy, I was getting a decent amount of Protein, carbs and fat, with all the
Vitamins needed from supplements. And I felt great. What I think is, I was eating like a
Mixed type all along.

who wouldnt eat vegetables because they grew in dirt.

Not kidding. His reason for not consuming veggies was they grew in dirt.

When asked how he could eat french fries (hello? potatoes grow in dirt), his response was priceless -

him :"they are deep fried - its like washing them off in the oil."

me: "isn't that the same as washing vegetables in water and then eating them?"

him: "its not the same"

He was completely serious.

Wonder what he'd say about peas, beans, corn, tomatoes, and other veggies that develop and ripen above-ground...
