Someone sent this to me today. I love getting unexpected things in the mail.

I really have a soft spot in my heart for seeing people get thrown HARD into the ground.

And I especially love looking down at someone right after having thrown them there. It makes my ground game so much easier. ;)

I bet you all thought I was such a nice guy. :)

here are two more, you might recognize parts of them. I think the video Coach put up has short segments of each.

The Gentle Way (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBZEuJAG3AQ)
This one makes me want to fight! The music is perfect!

Beautiful Judo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkuTkdzVb_0)
This is just plain ol' eye candy, gorgeous. Excellent music as well.

Great vids Matt.

The last vid you posted is the PR video for Kyoto University Judo Team. One of the big 7 Unis that still compete in Kosen Judo.

Little info on Kosen Judo. Kosen judo is judo with an emphasis on ground work (newaza). It is still practiced at some Japanese universities. The seven ex-imperial universities of Japan which includes Kyoto has an annual competition between those 7 Universities and uses the Kosen Rules Judo.

The group I practice judo with uses the Kosen rules. Thus, a majority of our practice is on the ground.

The vid was filmed at the Butokukai Hall.

Here is a pic of the outside of it.

Info on the history of the hall can be found here.

Kano Jigoro can be found sitting in the middle of this photo with the black hair and thick mustache holding the cane.

Some of the men surrounding him were famous Ju-jutsu masters of the time. (No, I didn't spell ju-jutsu wrong. In all actuality it should be spelled with two u's like this- "juu-jutsu")

Dr. Kano brought them together to work as a group on bettering the ju-jutsu of the time. Pretty forward thinking if you ask me. Although, he got them all together by proving that his 'judo' was better than their ju-jutsu.

What I believe to be a good history of judo can be found here.

If you read through the articles you might also find a little something from the 'Boss'. Very fluid with verbose. You know we love ya, Coach. :)

Little history lesson for today.

Off to train. :)
