Howdy all,

As some of you may have read, I'm prone to dong some strength tests periodically that are outside my normal training routine. Just to see what kind of overlap there is and what progress is made. It's done alot for my training as well as kept me honest.

Last night my training partners and I did a little mental test and thought I'd share the premise. I've most likely re-invented the wheel, but what the heck.

During the week we warm up or work out with 2-5 2 minute round of kicks and knees...er...shin and patella engagements :) on a mobil "heavy bag" A large peice of padding that one person can move around and call out the strikes. It's fun, sweaty time.

Well, this time we did the same thing with one change: I set the timer for a time interval that they did NOT know the length of. The rule was that they had to make each hit count, since they didn't know the time they could not pace themselves.

Colin was first and worked his guts out to a 7 minute time. I could see that he had gotten used to 2 minutes, but he dug in. The hard part was never knowing how long it would last. Trace (the new guy) did a fine job with 3 minutes. It seems short, but agian, the unknown is a booger. :)

To get their revenge, they set me up with 9 minutes. It is a nasty little beast, that voice in your head. Telling you to slow down, lighten up, pace yourself.

I'd like to think I kept up the pace as hard as I could, but you never know if you talked yourself into slack.

Anyway, it was a good time and a valuable time. Digging in when you don't have control of the situation is a big learning tool. Learning about yourself.

But MAN I'm tired today....

Interesting! Here's a mental test I came up with. I usually do this one every Wed. night.

I sit down on the couch with my gf and she turns it to channel 28 to watch American Idol.

So far, I've only made it to 5 minutes or so...........it's pure hell! :D
