I hope that I can state my question in a clear and concise fashion.
I have a fair understanding of the specificity principle and setting up cycled programs tailored to meet specific goals such as strength, power, endurance, etc. Where my confusion lies is in what is termed the Longevity Program in the CTCS book. The goals and results are clear-cut and well-defined in a cycle dealing with a specific attribute. I may be wrong, but the Longevity Program seems to be a varied group of excercises with continuously varied sets/reps with no defined goal. Does this method of almost random cycling of excercises and variables lead to decent results, and if so, what are the results? Is this a form of cocktailing?
I am trying to gain an understanding of these principles and how they relate to specific goals and achieving them. I am personally not training for any specific sport, but still would like to gain as much as possible in my training. Any thoughts/insights/clarifications would be greatly appreciated.
