A friend of mine hurt himself recently playing rugby (i guess in rugby, not getting hurt means you didn't play :D ) and asked some questions after I recommended Intu-Flow. I pointed him to RMAX and gave him the following, which I wanted you guys to critique to make sure I got it right.
I try to do Intu-Flow 3-4 times a week; it takes about 45 minutes to do the whole program, which can be split up throughout the day. I try to at least focus on the upper body, every day. There is a new program called “Ageless Mobility” and is only $25 and they recommend a 45 minute workout, 1-2 times a week to receive 100% of the benefits.
Both programs focus on recovering ROM (Range of Motion) and mobility and are useful for anybody, athlete or not. They are not sport specific, but are designed to counteract the stresses we incur with training and participating in any sport, martial art, activity or lack of activity.
Generally every sport tends to over-train a select group of muscles, making some muscles very strong and the rest in various levels of neglect. In addition a sport tends to have typical motions that are constantly repeated (throwing, kicking, etc.) and use only a portion of the total ROM of a joint. Sports, Martial Arts, and rugby for you, also have the high probability of taking a joint beyond your ROM, by working on the joints maximum ROM it is better prepared to handle these extremes. Think of it as “Use it or lose it”. If you’re not working on full ROM and mobility, you will lose ROM and mobility.
These programs take every joint thru your current ROM and work on gradually increasing it. Ageless is similar to Intu-Flow®, but not as extensive (my impression, as I haven’t seen it yet). Intu-Flow® is very thorough and includes two 5 pound mini-Clubbells (and a separate DVD program) that add an extra dimension to the exercises. I would recommend Intu-Flow®, but Ageless would be a good starting point to see if you benefit from it and will stick with it (consistency is an ongoing battle for most everyone).
Thanks in advance.
