I know this may sound silly and stupid because I can already guess the answer but, what is a good electrolyte replacement drink/mix without have the sugars you get from sports drinks?

Down here in the South, it's been miserably humid. This morning for example at 0900 it's 75% humidity. And that's before the afternoon showers. I swear we live in either a swamp of a rain forest! :(
Anyway, I'm averaging about 12 8oz glasses of water a day if not more. I know I burn through at least 6 when I'm working out. I noticed when I was overseas that when my electrolytes got low, I would get a twitch in my eyelids not a nervous tick although, with my kids, that would be understandable. I would have to double the amount of gatorade to get it to stop and do this for a few days.
So should I just up my intake of fruits high in potassium such as grapes and bananas and add more salt to the diet or what?

Hi Dale,

The best for me is fresh coconut juice. Just the juice without the meat. I call it the natural Gatorade. This can even substitute as an IV fluid in case of emergency.

I can give you the formula for electrolyte replacement consisting of salt, sugar, and pre-boiled water but I don't think you'll enjoy drinking it :)

Thanks Edwin. I'll look and see if some of the health store here carry it.

The army had this stuff back in the day called Med-Aid(I think). It was a mixture of salt orange juice and sugar. I think. All I knew was that it was nasty stuff.

I like this. It's a Lifefood Recipe from David Jubb.

Electrolyte Lemonade:

3 Organic Lemons, yellow skin removed, white pith intact
3 Tablespoons oil: flax, olive, or coconut (i've only used coconut)
1 Organic Pear Cored
1 Teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt
6 Cups Water
6 Tablespoons raw honey, maple syrup, or liquid stevia herb to taste

Blend all ingredients well in a blender. Makes 1 Pitcher

in germany "apfelschorle" - one third apple juice and two thirds mineral water - is an easy and commonly used alternative for iso drinks. but the climate is more moderat up here.

i remember my grandma serving some whey with fruit and salty gammon sandwiches for the farm workers during hot summer.

I like mixing a little bit of himalayan crystal salt into my water.

The water becomes really easy to drink, kinda like drinking my own saliva (sounds worse than it is) especially when fatigued from exercising.

Also the other option presented, young coconut juice, is an awesome one... it has the same effect of going down really easily.
