This is very interesting. Does anyone have any further information about this style? Where in Russia it was practiced? Any history?

I wish I could understand French better to appreciate it more! Thta's pretty wild stuff!

Scott, is the "swinging shoulders" concept particular to many or most of the Russian styles? I see that a lot.

Yes, it seems to be characteristic throughout almost all of the styles I've experienced.

For those who don't speak french, here is a translation from the french voice in the film, enjoy:

<BEGIN>

Journalist’s Intro :

In Moscow, security problems are everywhere
In the underground of a building close to the Kremlin, there is club, more than discrete
The place is a temple of Goritsa, a typical russian combat style that has been brought back in popularity since ten years
To get into the place, a sports bag isn’t sufficient, one has to show good will and orthodoxy take some muscular look
The grand master, Alexander Vielov, coaches 30 adepts or so

Coach talking to attendees:

You have a certain temperature in your hands where resides many vital points
You have to keep your hand not too closed neither too open, you must find an intermediate position, and then, you can start feeling something
But there is another organ to feel a situation, it is the heart

Coach demonstrating a particular point :

Don’t forget the side blasts, as soon as you’ve hit the first, hit the second time from behind

Coach being interviewed :

Gorytsa is the synthesis of the ancient russian combat sports
Gorytsa, by it’s conception, is more ethnical than Sambo
Sambo is our national model, but it relies more on oriental forms

Coach demonstrating an attack with a blindfolded student:

You do a frontal attack
You get into his strikes, that’s the tornado attack
Here he is not inert, he strikes hard and fast

Coach strikes through the blindfolded guys :

You race into him !

Coach talking on background of students practicing and then filmed directly

It will not please everyone in europe, but we are anti-globalists, in the sense that we don’t want the unification of europe
Today, the unification is done in a pro-american way
For us, europe is a treasure for the culture, it contains such a number and diversity of cultures that it would be waste to forget the differences that makes it’s richness

Coach then continues with two opponents with knives :

The < ???> is essential for a tornado attack, but nobody says that you have to put it in action in the streets
The criminal situation in Russia and France is completely different
In France, fighting on the street is an virtual eventuality, in Russia, it is an absolute necessity, which is regrettable but nevertheless a necessity

Journalist speaking :

Gorytsa, just as Sambo, does not only attract sport athletes, it’s connections with the mafia is notorious and they find therein their future recruits
This martial art is also used in the Russian army

Coach interviewed :

Yes of course, I have special military certification
We learn for example how to kill someone without any homicide proof, the autopsy will conclude by a suffocation by the victim’s own tongue
How to do it ? You use a double special strike that reverts the tongue, shutting the air arrival to the lungs
We have specific methods, but we don’t teach them here, these techniques don’t really come from Gorytsa but from the military 42 system
But today, we don’t have the necessity to teach those techniques
