View Full Version : Shoulder Click Question

Hi everyone,
I've been doing the beginner Intu-Flow® for a couple of weeks and when I do backward arm swings, I notice a fairly loud click in my left shoulder. It's not painful, and I suppose I wouldn't say that the discomfort is above a level 4, but it certainly feels weird. Sometimes I can avoid the clicking sound by keeping my shoulder as laterally rotated as possible throughout the entire motion. My right shoulder never clicks though, regardless of the degree of medial or lateral rotation.
I was just wondering if anyone has encountered anything like this? I'm not sure if it's a harmless release, or some crazy shoulder anomaly (I hope not!). Obviously it's impossible to diagnose the click in my shoulder just by reading my forum post, but if anyone has any kind of advice I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

Hi Sterno007,
Clicking is a sign of uneven muscle tension in the shoulder secondary to overdevelopment or underdevelopment of a muscle or any of the rotator cuff muscles. It could also be secondary to tension or muscle spasm of these muscles more often perpetuated by latent trigger points. It could also be an indirect result of tension in any of the 20 individual muscles supporting the rotator cuff.
Clicking is usually harmless if not accompanied by pain. Although you should take steps to know where the tension is coming from so corrective measures can be applied. Persevere with Intu-Flow until everything smoooths out. If you know anybody who is doing Physical therapy or myotherapy then that's a good start. They can tell you which muscle needs attention. Good luck and enjoy the journey!

Hi Eric,
i know these shoulder clicks from my journey. they have changed and now they are gone. And, just to help you relax into your journey - it is not a overnight thing.
But it is a lasting change of your whole physical body.
after quite a while with intuflow i found out that my complete left side is slightly but now quite good perceivable different tied together than the right side. and this is from head to toe. as edwin pointed out - there are a lot of muscles involved in just one little movement and as well a lot of myofascial nets.
is jour breathing the same on the left as on the right ? is your overall structure the same ? i found it usefull to take clip and look at them, sometimes you can see things you weren´t able to feel while you are in the movement.
is your shoulder down on you left or does it move somewhere else than your right ?
and last i still have the feeling that we westeners in general tend to do a little (or sometimes much) more than just our baby-steps. is it really your todays edge when you say your RPD is 4, or are you going slightly over your edge ?
remember - and i say this to me, as i forget this still sometimes - one goal is to relax into the movement. if you stress yourself achiving a movement you produce more boundflow.
all the best for your journey - it is a real adventure.

Hi,
Thanks so much for your quick responses.
Edwin and Benedikt,
Great advice. It's amazing how many muscles are involved each time I move my shoulder. It makes sense that out of them all, there must be at least a few that have excess or uneven tension. I'm definitely going to stick with Intu-flow and do my best to discover where that tension is.
Coach Iliano,
Awesome article. Thanks so much for posting that link. It answered a bunch of questions about the funky noises my body has been known to make.
I look forward to training with you guys some day. Everyone has been extremely helpful. Thanks again.
