Hi Scott,

I really enjoyed your discussion of LCCJ. The technique is sufficiently different from what I've seen before that it raised a few technical questions for me. First, my impression on the back rounding is that it should be enough to watch the bell, but that's about it; is that right? Second, when you talk about loading the leg, are you actually swinging the bell behind it rather than more in the center? And last, what are the breathing patterns?

I've finally made a complete and clean break with DD except for using their bells until I can get better ones. I'm going AKC (as much as I can until I can go to a cert or see a coach) and CST now pretty much exclusively, except for some traditional bodyweight exercises that I like doing for part of my GPP. ("Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.")

Thanks for everything!

Glenn,

Yes, don't freak out about the back rounding. If you follow it with your eyes, you'll start to get the sufficent movement.

To load the opposite leg, focus on the forearm twist, thumb pointing back behind you.

Breathing patterns change as you get better with it. If you have any fear of hurting your lower back, it's hard to avoid doing a defensive inhalation bracing or pressurizing. So, go light enough until you don't have to hold your breath. Then let your breathing happen from the struggle of the performance. Initially I make the general suggestion of exhaling on the leg drive of the clean, exhale on the catch in the rack, exhale on the dip to jerk lockout, exhale on the catch down in the rack. Inhales just happen.

Thanks, Scott. That clarifies things enough to allow me to keep working until I can get to a coach.
