I hate to see things like that! I would much rather see someone's chewed up hand after doing a lot of clubbell or kettlebell work!!

To be fair, her proprioceptive awareness and general athleticism saved her skin. Qualities the dude in the photo above probably lacked.

How applicable is powerlifting to grappling sports? Particularly ones where throws/slams are useful like Judo, Wrestling and MMA?

Not very. Check out the forum for the SAID principle (http://www.rmaxinternational.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10935). If you're training to deadlift, you're only training to deadlift. Any benefit your throwing has from powerlifting is in spite of the lifting and not because of it.

Thanks, I hadn't twigged (even though it should be obvious from the videos) that you're not going through the whole motion at once.
