Hi everyone:
I had posted an idea about relaxing your anus as a relaxation technique over on the Biomechanical Exercise & Bodyweight Conditioning area, but as the conversation was segueing into Qi Gong and energy ideas, I thought I would continue it here as I saw other questions on energy here.
As an aside, I am interested in energy exercises, but I have felt that beyond simple breathing exercises, I would need someone to teach me. I studied a little Tai Chi and can make my hands "warm" by concentrating on them and visualizing energy flowing into them. The best visualization that seemed to work for it is making a "ball" with your fingers and imagining holding a ball of energy. I just tried it now; I felt a sort of warming sensation emanating from the center of my palms fairly quickly. For one hand, I actually use a similar visualization.
I went and read that "horror story" that someone posted in my original thread (http://www.healingdao.com/cgi-bin/tpost.pl?smessage=6122) where someone had problems with Iron Shirt. It said that the person in question may have had a Kundalini problem. As far as I know, thats a Yoga-type discipline involving energy moving up and down the spine. One thing I've always wondered about is whether this type of language actually describes something fundamentally different from Western medicine or not. Couldn't that person have been simply doing something that raised their blood pressure during the exercise (possibly with an undiagnosed pre-existing condition) and had some blood pressure related event that resulted in the described symptoms, or is it actually a different problem? In other words, are they fundamentally different problems, or different languages describing the same thing?
My personal view on what Qi/Chi/Ki energy really is is that it is electrical or magnetic fields set up by the moving charges found in the body, in the nervous system and/or the bloodstream. If you remember from physics, moving charges set up electrical or magnetic fields (I can't remember which one right now.) It would also make sense that if people could manipulate these charge relationships by mentally controlling their "energy flow", then that's how energy healing works -- you use your own field to realign those of others.
