Hello all,

First off I recieved my 45lb bruiser about 2 weeks ago and love it.
It humbled me trying to get it out of the box.

It got me wondering about something I read in, "Rock, Iron Steel" by Steve Justa.

In it he relays a story about working in a steel mill filling in for a guy that weighed around 140lbs, and being humbled by the other guys strength/endurance when trying to fill in at his job.

Justa talks about his views on strength/endurance, and that a true test of strength is being able to do something difficult-weight wise-for a few hours at a time, like he learned on a 12 hour shift.

Justa recommends doing around a 100 or more rep scheme over a couple of hours.

I was wondering what the Coach's thoughts are on this? What program would you suggest for that type of strength?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Joe

Well, I suppose it's what you are training for that counts. If your event is 12 hours long then it would be smart to spread the reps out evenly over the course of a day. If your event is short then the reps must be performed in a short amount of time.

It is hard to maintain this type of training, especially with the bruiser for long. It takes a lot out of you. If it was me I would do X number of reps at the top of every interval. Intervals would be expressed in terms of fraction of an hour and varied from day to day.

eg. 1 hour, 1/2 hour, 1/4 hour, 2 hours etc.

So at each interval do X reps.

Joe,

I suggest that you go ahead with this idea you will start to learn what Justa meant by his suggestion. I'll give you mine, start with Coach Szolek's ABC Manual (http://www.profcs.com/app/aftrack.asp?afid=79892&u=http://www.circularstrength.com/abc.html), pick an exercise learn it well, and checkout the ABC Death March on page 89.

If you need any further assistence go to the Program Design Help Desk.

Be sure to post your results,

Good luck,
