View Full Version : Twisting Spinal Arch...

03-08-2004, 10:02 AM
Well, after getting the neck roll on both sides I have moved on to the twisting spinal arch. After a week of failed attempts, I have been able to get into the position for about a week--but, I am having a lot of trouble getting out of it! Sounds retarded, but I have watched the relevant footage in Maximology and Body-Flow and still I just lie there cluelessly in the plow position.

Has anybody else got into a similar state of proprioceptive pandemonium?

Plato,

I too have had the same problem with this exercise until I realized that the motion is exactly the same as the neck roll only you are rolling over a greater part of your body. This exercise could just as easily be called the upper body roll.

Before getting into your "Plough Position" try to rember which side you came into it from then simply go out the other side.

I just got it! :D It is harder on one side then the other, but just like the neck roll, it will probably work itself out in a few sessions.

Thanks for the input! It is indeed like doing a "longer" version of the neck roll.

Plato,

Great job brother, now work it into a Kenetic Chain to really drive home the movement characteristic :!:

I think a kinetic chain is still a ways away for me, :( but the twisting spinal arch is getting better each day. Also, I remember what you said about my hips and what I have done is adopted the shinbox switch. Previously I performed the shin switch and I would just keep my heels off the floor--doing whatever I had to do to get the motion done. Not in the sense of the end point, but rather the full movement. However, I found it was too forceful and forceful only goes so far.

Shinbox switches are much less stressful. My dream is to get loose enough to do a one-leg squat Well, that is one of my dreams on the way to being just free to move my body the way I want. This sounds really unmanly in a forum like this, but I am sometimes jealous of the way that female samba dancers can move. It is like they are completely free of fear-reactivity.

Anyway, I got the Freedom by Degree series and watched it this weekend. It was cool, but I think it will benefit me more at a later date. I also got the Flow-State Performance video and the most interesting thing was comparing Coach Sonnon between 2001 and 2004! Wow! What a change.

Well, I will lock myself in a corporate conference room here in about 30 minutes and train. Nobody at work has figured out my "company gym." 8)

Sounds like my Dream execept for the Samba Dancer part! 8)

Seriously though, fear of criticism prevents success for a lot of people.

Those who learn how to manage it are one step closer.

Congratulations on your twisted success,

Fun intended,
