View Full Version : NIE Response vs. "Chemical Dump"

I've been following Coach Sonnon's blog of Alberto Crane's training, and have come across something that confuses me. Coach discusses the "chemical dump" that takes place in the body when you go above your max heart rate, eroding the fine motor skills you've developed and making you rely on less useful reflexes. This sounds very much like the manner in which you reach the NIE response as discussed in FlowFit, which is supposed to have amazing health benefits. One phenomenon is shown in a negative light, while the other is shown in a positive light. However, from my limited perspective, they seem to be talking about the same physiological response to stress imposed on the body.

What is the difference between the two? I'm sure I'm missing something.

Jesse,

One occurs at your target HR (the phenomena of "2nd wind" - and 3rd, 4th, and 5th), and the other occurs when you crest HRmax. Your goal is to learn to surf between the two as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Thanks for the reply! That clears it up for me. What is the easiest way for an average joe to make sure they're doing this correctly?
