Can anyone recommend a decent heart-rate monitor that is not too costly.

Features needed are really just a max-heart rate alarm and a countdown timer with alarm.

Thanks
:)

I recommend Polar brand. Try one of their most basic models. They carry the whole gamut from basic HR functions up to very high tech models. Although there are many brands now & I'm sure some are good, Polar has been the leader for years. I have been using their monitors for more than a decade and i find their products & service outstanding. You can check out the various models available at http://www.polarusa.com/

I've got a polar rs100. The only bad thing to me is that the beeper isn't loud enough for me. a volume control would have been a great feature but other than that once I got over the learning curve, I love it!

I have a Polar FS1. Off of ebay for 20 dollars. It works really well, this model doesn't record max HR but it does allow you to put zones. I just glance at the watch to see what my HR is, very easy.

I have the same issue as Dale, I can't hear the beep, I'm hard of hearing though, so I thought it was just me! A model with vibration would be great for me.
