View Full Version : Double D Help/Suggestions (post is a bit long)

I've decided to embark upon Coach Sonnen's Double D program. I'm 38, 5' 10" 200 lbs with approximately 15-18% body fat. I'd like to drop down to 190. I have a pair of 10s and 15s, a 25 lber and a bruiser.

I was planning on going with swipes in one session and I'n not sure what to use in the other, maybe a clean to shoulder park with a squat to get the whole body going.

I understand the necessity of putting the Warrior Wellness session in between the two sets, but need some advice about how to pull this off.
I teach high school English and am the pitching coach for our high school baseball team. I would do the am session before work, start it at about 5:30 am. The second set would get going somewhere between 7 and 8 pm, depending upon day games.

I'd have difficulty in sandwiching the WW session in between the two. I teach a heavy load with one period off between 9 and 9:40 am. I could squeeze the WW session here in my classroom, but I am not always free during this period. Due to sub shortages, I often have to cover other teacher's classes, and frankly, I need the period to get copies made and papers graded. I also have to read for my last doctoral course. I hope I don't come off as "whiny," but suddenly my schedule has become just jampacked with things.

Any ideas about how to best schedule all of this? Looking forward to some great advice. This is more to me than just working out. I'm feeling a bit old lately what with have knee than tricep therapy the past six months. I haven't worked out regularly since last August, and I need a consistent, challenging program for physical, mental and spiritual reasons.

I appreciate any help you folks can give me.

John,

First off, have you fully recovered from these previous “conditions” (knee & tricep therapy)?
Secondly, the Warrior Wellness sandwiched in-between isn’t just a good idea…it’s necessary. I applaud you on deciding to tackle the Double D and you’re in for a great challenge and some impressive gains.
Now, at the risk of sounding unsympathetic, you’re just going to have to make the time. You have a busy schedule no doubt about it, but only you can decide how important this is to you. Maybe you can take 15 minutes off your lunch, or tell those other teachers to stop dumping their workload on you (their probably doing their Warrior Wellness while your covering their classes  ).

Good luck,

Coach Jones:

Thanks for the speedy reply. I haven't had internet service until today.

I am fully recovered from the knee and tricep injuries. And, you are right. I'll just have to suck it up and fit in the Warrior Wellness. I did the beginner program along with the video yesterday after a ball game, and it felt great. I figure I'll schedule one of my DD days on Sunday, easily getting the WW session done in between. That'll leave Tuesday and Thursday for me to fit it in at school. I guess I can find a way to get it done during lunch. Thanks for the advice.

Also, Coach Jones, I wonder what you though of the two exercises I listed above for the DD. Would you recommend others in their place. I am still very new to CB training and have just been having fun, trying different things out. So, if you have better exercises, I'd be glad to try them. Again, I just want to blow the rust out of my system, drop ten pounds and challenge myself.

Thanks again for the advice.

John,

Good idea setting one of your days on Sunday.

There's nothing wrong with your combo, but it might be a bit much for the start of your "comeback". High repetition Swipes are going to tax your legs and hitting them again with the squats...well that might be a bit much for right now. That said, it's hard to beat the old Swipe/Mill combo.

If you have any more questions, give me a yell,

Coach Jones:

Thanks for the tips. I'll plug the swipes/mills in instead.
