View Full Version : Simple question
Hi, due to a change in schedule i'm gonna have to do a weightlifting session on the same day as a one hour muay thai class.
My question is if I finish the weightlifting session 15 mins before the class, will drinking a bottle of lucozade which has a glycemic index of 100 be a good idea to get the energy needed for the muaythai class?
Thanks in advance.
Edward Metcalfe
No you'll crash 1/2 way thru.
Just get a little extra cals during the day. If you're not fat adapted use something like Champion nutrtion Cytomax.
Thanks.
Could you tell what that supplement contains? It is because I am in England and I don't know if I can get hold of that here.
Thanks a lot.
Peace

I think you can get Cytomax in the Uk, do a search on GNC's site to see if they have a store near you. They will either have it or be able to order it for you.

Thanks guys.
So this is just a drink to have during and after exercise and not an everyday 3 times thing, that is good.
What about if i'm trying to burn fat; will it inhibit that effect or is it of such a high quality that it won't stop me from burning fat?
Thanks again guys.
Peace.

It will not totally stall fatloss; however, whenever insulin is raised (I.E., ingestion of carbs) lipolysis (fat burning) is somewhat blunted as is GH output. John Berardi believes that the carbs will not hinder fat loss at all as the carbs will allow you to work at a higher intesnity, thereby negating any negative effects of the carbs. Unless you're fat adapted or have been doing low carb for a while, taking in a few carbs before your MA class would probably be a good idea. Bill knows what he's talking about when it comes to this stuff - I would follow his supplement suggestion.

Not a supplement solution, but an activity oriented idea that has worked for me in the recent few months. My schedule has forced me to practice my chi kung and kettlebell lifting sessions pretty much back to back (allowing maybe 20-35 minutes between). My solution was to get hold of a two of the 'Miracle Ball Method' balls marketed by Elaine Petrone and go find a quiet place to practice a 'crucifix' variation of the corpse pose while spending 5-8 minutes with a ball under the ventral side of each forearm, right near the elbow crook (there is a picture of this pose in the little book that accompanies the balls) and another 5-8 minutes with one ball tucked under each side of the back of the skull (technically the 'mastoid processes' on each side of the external occipital protruberance) - the skull naturally tends to arc back over the balls and you give yourself a version of the 'cranial sacral balancing' therapy recently popularized by Upledger.
The effect of the weight of your body pressing important pressure points on the Miracle balls is hard to believe until you actually experience it. The MM balls are different from playground balls and toy balls, etc, in that the skin is thicker and softer, but also denser, so it's easier to relax but you don't end up compromising soft tissues with excess compression. Very rejuvenating, lets you slough off residual tension and stiffness in a very short time and move out of 'weight lifting' mode into 'fast and loose' mode.
Of course, vibrational breathing and shaking as shown by Coach Sonnon in 'Maximology' and 'Prime Your Bioenergy' would also help a lot in this regard. Since this is the CST site, thought I better throw that in, though sometimes I am too ADD/overamped to have the patience to give the method time to work. The Corpse pose /Miracle Ball combo ALWAYS works for me, because it lets me be fairly passive and somewhat lazy.
Right now you can find the MM balls in a package with a 'minibook' at Borders or Barnes and Noble for $18.00. Or get them from the link below.

The cytomax will not effect your fat burning given your workout. One of the best supps I have ever used and given my rediscovery of my love of running I will probably pick some up.
Baradi's idea is interesting. His stuff is complex but I'm reading it with interest.

John Berardi released the second article in an excellent series entitled Nutrient Timing over at T-mag this week.
I just read both articles and some back stuff.
As I said, interesting, but way too body builder obsessed food manipulation for me. The idea you have eat twice after a late night workout is just silly. It encourages the BB mentality about food, if I don't stick to my feeding schedule my muscles will go away. I think htis approach is only indicated if you're trying to carry excessive non-functional muscle without steriods.
Cool guys.
Well it definitely looks like I should purchase this supplement.
I'm still having a bit of a hard time finding it in the uk but maximuscle seem to have some similar products.
I will let you know how I get on with my training after using this product, and I might start a thread in the training log forum.
Thanks again.
Peace, Ed
