Most saturday mornings we train from 7am through to 12 midday.
Today: James, Tom, Richard and myself.
Exploring Aspects of :
(i) Be Breathed.
(ii) Warrior Wellness (Beginner Level revisit).
(iii) Determining and controlling the Centre of Mass (CoM) of the Clubbell:
The physics and physical manifestations of the nature of pulling /pushing forces, pendulums and twirling (about end and mid-point nodes of arnis stick length, taiji short stick length and staff length, both light and weighted) with associated natural frequncies/ periods, feeling different moment arms of masses real and virtual, drills emphasing bend back and hip snap to drive pedulums, importance of elbow pits to sky to assist , importance of drawing in clubbells from pendulum to twirling motion and back to pendulum (as in Mills and Swipes ect) with transitions of continual changing acceleration to eliminate all "clunks"/ rapidly developed forces throughout the motions. (Think how traffic engineers designing a right angle turn start with a gentle curve before building into the actual radius of the corner, and similarly on the way out so the acceleration/forces upon the car and body to traverse the corner builds slowly, peaks and then reduces gently.) Aspects of pushing the clubbells initially to catch and so control the Centre of Mass(CoM) as it moves into the pulling component in Pendulums and Circles, both in Sagittal and Coronal planes, and reeling in/returning the clubbell through the top of its floating phase to catch back in order and flag positions. Went through "Josh's Six-Shooters" to highlight added control of CoM in exercises like the Mill. Tying all back into back bend, hip snap, and shoulder packed positions protocols. Working from the 5's through to 25's and back to ensure above concepts above do work right across the diverse range of exercises and combinations.( "You can't lie to the bruiser" - I haven't had a Bruiser sent out yet but even the 25's reveal whether the concepts attempted to be described above are properly appreciated by the body.)
(iv) Applying afore mentioned concepts into a 5 minute set of Swipes to experience 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears etc whilst focusing on these different aspects. A good experience for all - average RPE 7+. Preping the crew to get ready for a Density program
(v) "Bash & Bang" - highlighted to Richard some of the nature & different "personalities" of variety of differents strikes. Introduced importance of Shock Absortion and how body functions as a Tensegrity redirecting heavy localized strikes into ground or returning strike etc with any part of body. Highlighted "enabling" concepts. Developed sequence and used sequence driver to hardwire some strikes to sternum, external cutaneous nerve, internal cutaneous nerve, kidneys and coccyx bone targets. Richard had go at being the bodybag, learnt when to squeal and tap out etc before any fear reactivity can set in etc. Fair bit of emphasis on highlighting some of physiological and psychological responses Rich was naturally experiencing. James, Tom and I played for a while doing freestyle stuff to get back into getting hit harder and going to/being taken to the ground etc.
A good general intro for Rich into some of the deeper intricacies, and good revisit to basics for James and Tom. Got the blood flowing for all, all took away exercises to work on before next week - basically had to kick them out and send them off home otherwise we'd still be there.
Cheers
