I have a quick question dealing with two exercises from the solo grappling drills video. First is with the spinal rock into letting your knees slam down on each side of your face and next is with the neck roll from the crucifex position (laying on stomach).

In spinal rock drill i cant seem to get my feet to touch the ground. I drop the knees to straddle my face but legs just seem like they arent long enough to touch ground and in the video Scotts legs make contact. Is this a flexibility issue or may my legs just not be long enough ( i am short w/ shoter apendiges 5'4). Same goes with neck roll. My legs make contact with the ground in this drill but do rise in middle portion of roll.

Again, i am able to do both drills but just wanted to know if my legs not being able to touch and stay on the ground is a problem i need to correct or may just be an issue with my bodytype and the way i am performing the drills is still effective.

thanks,
Corey

Corey,

Both regard core strength.

On the Spinal Rock Knee Drop, exhale more forcefully. What may seem to be inflexibility, for most people actually means they unnecessarily hold their breath. This causes a lack of range of motion since the core cannot collapse upon itself with the bag of air constricting the movement.

On the Neck Roll, contract your core more and exhale more forcefully. Use your hands as training wheels until your core strength develops sufficiently to accomplish the exercise.

thank you very much coach. I figured it wasnt that my legs were too short, it was a problem with my application of your movement. I will give both your methods a try. Thank you
