I just returned from my first real tournament. I had a personal best as far as my performance, while I didn't make the podium, I am pleased on how well I played my game. I'm being forged by competition.

mens heavy wieght gi division:
first match:
I went with the Kevin from round rock. He had 3 inches on me in height. I foiled his takedown and got position. he scrambled out into side control. I had control of his neck. i laced my hand to his lapel and kept it there. we went the full five minutes positioning. I was able to maintain control off his neck and held him off amazingly. Kevin had three points for side control and won the match. Afterwards we were both surprised that I didn't get the take down points. he went for the clinch and I arm swam a reversal while leveraging off his lapel and drove him to the mat. I suppose that I didn't establish control there as he scrambled and i got his neck. Awesome match,Kevin went on to win first place.

second match:
I went with Nick from my school. We had a great roll. I was ahead with eleven points to his 8. After a great kumara reversal he got my arm. I went for a leg flip to alter his positioning for the arm bar and failed. I could have gone for the escape but I tapped, I didn't want to chance getting hurt. Either way we got points for our school. Great roll Nick!!

Afterwards Joao took me aside and congratulated me on my game. He said that I have made a huge improvement in the last few months. Joao is opening a studio in Wimberley in January. He wants me to be his conditioning coach and he will help me progress in technique development. Wimberley is getting a BJJ studio with CST prasara classes

Congrats to you Joseph on your 'rolling on the mat'. I, too recently partook in a BJJ match and must say that my CST helped me from suffering a debilitating wrist injury (it was rolled over underneath my opponent, bent at a very nasty angle, and somehow came out an ugly position with only a sprain). At 50, partaking in BJJ with 20somethings mainly can be difficult, but I love it and find that CST has been a huge boon to not only successful 'rolling' but fun, too.

hello,

joseph david, in most bjj events, one must maintain control for 4-3 seconds to get points (this goes for passing guard as well).

that said, congrats on your event. sounds like a good time. also sounds like you will attend many more!

did you get any photos?

thanks
