View Full Version : Tension Migration Situation

Just a (possibly) interesting comment: As I've worked this Bullwhip Density Cycle (posted in the CST Program Log forum), I've noticed where I feel tension/soreness has moved from hand to elbow to shoulder and now to traps. Sometimes it's felt during the exercise and sometimes it's felt between workouts. It's as if the workload is shifting as each muscle group, beginning at my hands, adapts. I imagine it's a prime example of some Law of Muscular Tension Migration Adaptation or some such thing I know nothing of, but I found it interesting, albeit probably not particularly useful. Cheers.

Robert,
It's a Kinetic Chain (of tension) produced from too hi/generlized tension. Hit it with Vibration Drills and Dynamic Joint Mobility Drills to shake it out thoroughly and often. Also, hold the Clubbell as lightly as possible; only tensing at the critical moments (Selective Tension).
Be impressed by your own sensitivity to this issue. Most people do not even feel its development and progression.

Thanks Coach! So far I haven't really been bothered by the tension much (just "noticed" it), but will continue to do DROM and Vibration Drills to make sure it doesn't develop into a problem. Also, I find that I naturally Selectively Tense and had wondered if that was wrong...until I read about Selective Tension and found out I was doing the right thing. The more I get into this stuff, the more I become more kinesthetically aware, the more interesting it all becomes. Good food for thought and exploration/experimentation.
Thanks again!

Robert,
If that's the case, it actually may be a pre-condition of tension that now releases because of your training, as the site travels back to the source. Keep us updated on your progress.

Hmmmm...very interesting! I feel it more in my left trap, than my right. So, the source could be (as an example) my right hip and it may have manifested in my left hand (the site) and is now moving back to my right hip as I release more and more? Something like that? I will continue to observe and report. Thanks!

That may be exactly the case. Perform some hip mobility exercises to break up the chain at the source.
