So I'm halfway through my second viewing of IOUF, and I have to say first off that I really, really enjoy this series. Absolutely masterful and thoroughly-explained standup grappling science. Makes me wish Fisticuffs and Shockability were still for sale.

As I start to emphasise more sambo/judo/jujitsu in my training, I certainly want to start renovating drills to bring them in line with IOUF concepts, and this is where I've hit a sticking point, as my own grappling training isn't nearly deep enough to do so at will. Should I just drill techniques as I've been taught and renovate them with IOUF, or is there a way to actually build drills to specifically train the IOUF concepts?

On that note, I've been trying to work the triangle point and quantum gripping into my neck and body pummelling drills - the pinky-first grip is a lot harder than Coach Sonnon makes it look, particularly when the other guy has a thick neck!

Any pointers at all on the how-to of training IOUF would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if you are training formally with a group or not so...

If you can find a good training partner to focus on the drills from the tapes I would highly recommend it. If not, pick one principle that you would like to focus on and apply it in your grappling class. Work it until you get it. Then work it another 200 times.

Another important point is achieving a thorough understanding of Intu-Flow®. Seriously. Just ask anyone who has attended any of my throwing clinics. Intu-Flow® is shadow stand-up grappling.

Here's a vid of me playing with some of IOUF principles.

Cheers, Coach Hurst. I'll definitely keep all that in mind.

I do have a regular training group, but all of us being working stiffs, we're subject to the whims and fancies of fate. That said, my most regular grappling buddy is a blue belt-standard BJJ practitioner whom has recently taken up Systema with me and whom I've also managed to corrupt...er, I mean, convert to CST training, so I reckon we can put our heads together and create some drills for IOUF.

The main trouble I've had with IOUF is that it is actually a little short on actual drills per se - a lot of solid theoretical grounding and demonstration, but not that many actual drills, unless I'm missing something.
