I found this cool article in yesterdays evening standard british tabloid.

Here is a summary of the effects:

Phosphoric acid- tooth erosion, weakens bones

Citric acid- tooth erosion

Sunset yellow- hyperactivity, may exacerbate asthma

Carmoisine- as above

Sodium Benzoate (E211)- may exacerbate asthma

Aspartame- brain cancer, migraines, dizziness, blurred vision

Saccharine- bladder cancer

Glucose fructose syrup- obesity and diabetes

Acesulfame k- cancer links

Cafeine- behavioural problems, insomnia

Sodium metabisulphate- intestinal irritation

Caramel colour- behavioural problems

I think these are mainly drink orientated additives.

I don't know what amounts of these additives causes these problems, so it's hard to know how important it is to stay away from them.

Anyway, hope you find it interesting.

Don't forget that dihydrogen monoxide is the world's most effective diuretic! And a leading cause of asphyxiation too! Yet it's everywhere....
