View Full Version : A new beginning: the 100-rep deathmarch Front Swipe

Last Monday I began the first steps along a 100-rep death march using the Bruiser “Front Swipe” (a clean to order plus a Gama Cast) with the additional fun of a rotation in back position. I performed about 50 of them at about a “2” level of technical performance, in sets of five, with three minute rests between sets. Grueling. By a “2”, I mean I was able to leverage that bad boy up to my shoulder, lean it down, grunt and groan it to the opposite side, and leverage it down again. Pretty sad, I thought. But it was getting me ready for the real thing, and I figured that eventually I’d get up to that wonderful “8+” technical point.

On Thursday night I decided to do something a bit odd: sets of Bruiser Front Swipes, doing “Warrior Wellness” type drills in-between. I chose the “Priming Your Bioenergy” tape to do this with, playing it in the background, and then just following along in the 3-minute gap between sets. Did 10 sets like that, still at a technical level of about 2, maybe 3. I was happy with that much apparent progress.

Went to sleep Thursday night, and woke up 6 1/2 hours later feeling completely rested. This is unusual for me, as I need 8 hours on a regular basis. Went out to my exercise room and performed my 20 minute yoga routine and noticed that I felt REALLY relaxed and loose. Afterwards, I did a little Silat, and again felt very “greasy” and fast. Hmmm.

Then I went to practice my Bruiser work. Set myself, bracing internally, gripped it, lifted it, and…

The darned thing went up right over my shoulder, almost effortlessly. Floated to my other shoulder. And down. I did four more apparently perfect reps. Rested three minutes, slightly astonished. Did five more reps. And continued this process for a total of 50 reps!

I couldn’t believe it, and on my Saturday workout with Coach Sonnon, Dan and Doug, had them check my form. Yep, I was at an “8” level in technique.

I want to say this clearly: NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I EXPERIENCED A JUMP IN PERFORMANCE LIKE THIS. Never. In almost 35 years of various training. It was simply incredible. Yesterday, I used a “true” density protocol, starting sets at the top of the minute, resting for the rest of the minute, and then starting the next set. Forty sets, aiming at 5 reps per set. I handled that load for about 20 sets, then had to drop down to 4, and finally three to finish up for a total of about 150 reps in 40 minutes, averaging about a “7” in technique.

Utterly baffling. People, if you haven’t been doing your Bioenergetic Warrior Wellness exercises, get going. Try the method I used: set up a TV set and video player in your workout area, and just “move along” during your breaks. I promise you’ll be startled.

As I progress through the 100-Rep Bruiser Death march, I’ll keep ya’ll posted.

But…WOW!
