About a week ago I dislocated my knee during BJJ. The swelling is finally starting to go down and I am hopeful that I'll be off crutches and limping around by Monday. As of right now I don't have insurance so physical therapy is out. Do any of you have any suggestions on self-directed-rehab for a dislocated knee? Thanks.
BTW: I did go to the ER the morning after I dislocated the knee. Everything checked out fine; no chips, fractures, tears, rips, etc.

Sorry Jonathon. Even though you cannot afford a PT, it's inappropriate to offer suggestions here when you are in need of a PT's in-person evaluation and guidance.

Jonathan,
Dislocated kneecap? Or dislocated tibiofemoral joint? (If it was this, you have a very high likelihood of having sprained ligaments)...
How was the dislocation reduced? Did it "pop" back in by itself? Did someone have to physically do it?
Also at the E.R.... How did they determine that everything was "fine"?
X-rays? Physical examination? My good friend is an E.R. physician, but he will also tell you that they look for significant damage (fractures and all that). So it is possible they missed things like mensical tears, ligamentous sprains... etc.,
As you can maybe guess. I believe you need, as Coach stated, an in person evaluation.

Coach,
Totally understood.
Jarlo,
It was a dislocated kneecap. The damn thing was sitting on the side of my leg. It reduced on its own by sliding back into place. In the ER they did a physical examination and X-Rays. Also, he said the level of swelling was fairly minimal. I was hoping that the ER visit would be good enough. Do you suggest getting it looked at further?

Also, would I be able to do some sort of self test/exam to check for something like a meniscal tear or sprain? Obviously if I need to go back to the Dr. I'll do so, it's just that without insurance the debt of a visit is a scary thing. Thanks.

Jonathon,
There are PT boards on the internet which can help you with that sort of thing. This is the wrong place. Some courts would consider me liable for medical advice handed out on this forum, even if not by me. I'm locking the thread. Good luck on your recovery.
