View Full Version : Huge Goal met today: The Walking Bridge

Yeah this is just sick and intoxicating. I went through my regular detailed Warrior Wellness session and then added some of my extreme back mobility exercises and my old goal came to me at what I thought was the end of my work.

You see about a month or two ago I saw an old Cirque De Soleil show on Bravo (some of the only TV I watch anymore) and one of the very talented and well trained contortionists "galloped" onto and off of the stage while in a Back Bridge. This totally blew me away, but I knew it was within and would just take stepping my naturally flexible spine up a level or two (which the upcoming issue of CSTmag will show that I've done). Well with my flexibility at ever increasing highs, I went for the Bridge walk today and after just one miss-step I had it locked.

I really believe that I burned several new neural pathways today to form the coordination to opposite appendages in the same direction while bent into a Back Bridge. And oh baby is it fun. I have to admit there is some part of me that wants to walk in the Memorial Day parade in the bridge just to show people that it is possible. I love to rock the perception of people who are so quick to judge me based on my muscle.

Anyways, I will be riding the high of this new trick for some time and I had to share the fun. Thanks tribe, for inspiring me to keep expanding my own ideas of human limitation.

In faith,

That was great Doug! Did you let the goal go for awhile and then return?

I know our bodies are different, as well as our "fear reactivity", but do you have any pointers? I've always wanted to do that also. I also saw that Cirque Du Soleil(I've seen all of them).

Are your "pointers" going to be in an upcoming article?

Thanks for sharing and inspiring,

Robert

Just pm'd you to call you attention to this post, should have known you'd find it quickly anyhow  .

I didn't abandon the goal, I just took it from the mindset that I'd have to seriously increase my flexibility before being able to safly attempt this trick. I'm now at the point where I'm as comfortable or more so, while in the Bridge as I am while standing or sitting. This type of stability within the position seems to me to be the ideal foundation to build coordinated mobility from.

So if you want to work to this goal what I can tell you is that everything that I used to get to this trick will be in the upcoming article.

On the note of continued growth however, the Cirque contortionist was able to arch her head so far so as to be able to see between her legs to tell where she was going. I'm not there yet but should be soon as I'm now moving on to what can best be described as a reverse plough position and eventually a reverse neck roll (I know, sick right).

Fun times man, good to have a few strong guys along for the ride who really appriciate mobility.

peace,

that sounds aswome!!!!

and why not move the way u want???

i was up at 6 today and took a friend of mine to this really nice nature spot in my area i showed her the recover worrior wellness and she really anjoyed it.i had a great amount of fun. i even got her to do some bme and she seemed to enjoy it also.i was suprised at how quik she got the momvents,we did the long leg creep and a bouch of others from body flow.looks like ill be meeting up with her more often for more of the same fun.

we did some video taping ,mainly of me showing my newly gained mobilty.

just a week ago a wached the demo of coach dans quad to bridge swich and i had to try it.my body was afraid at first but i got it down rather quikly 8) so ill contunue to refine it.

thats for the aswome idea dan!!!

a walking bridge u say,i think ill try that as well

i realized laitly that if u speak to your body it will listen and apreciate that u placed your focus on it.

cool stuff man.

its funny how u say people judge u quikly because of your muscle, but then again its not really their fault its what they have learned.

looking forward to the new issue of cst mag.

a good day to all!!!!!

Great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hate to burst the bubble but I was just getting ready for bed when I posted this message, not just rising from bed.

And Connie, going up and down steps in the bridge, why that's just sick enough to be special. Thanks for the idea.

Until next time, "on a scale of 1 to Awsome, I'm Super-Great"

The walking bridge?!?! Man, I trained under a Shootfighting instructor out here a long time ago and he made us do those across the damn room. Actually, it was more of a one/two step stumble, flop on my head, and get back up in the bridge a few inches closer to the other side of the room. It was really sick when he made his top student do it up a flight of stairs!

Congrats man, make sure you shoot a quick video so I can post it on my site!

Keep training hard brother,
