I went to see the documuentary "Super Size Me" on Saturday night. It won recognition at the Sundance Film Festival, and the premise sounded interesting: What would happen to a man that eats only McDonald's food 3 times per day, every day for a month, and nothing else?

Aside from following the progress of the filmmaker's self-inflicted dietary experiment, it explores the American fast-food and junk-food cultures. He spends some time exploring food pograms in American schools, and looks at the growing international trend towards consuming more fast food.

A key component of the filmmaker's experiment was the employment of 3 physicians and a personal trainer/nutritionist to record and monitor his initial physical condition and subsequent changes. While they all expected some negative impact from this diet... none expected anything remotely like the results. By the time 3 weeks had passed, all of them were urging him to stop the experiment before he suffered permanent damage to his liver!

I highly recommend this film to everyone that has the chance to see it. It's amusing and thought-provoking, and will provide you with quite a few surprises that I won't divulge here.

My wife and I saw "SuperSize Me" as well. We both highly recommend it.

"Supersize Me" was mentioned in a post by Nikolay )I think) or some other forum administrator several weeks back. I must confess that I am quite looking forward to its release here in the (relatively) backwater region of the Midwest (ie, anything not Kansas City, Chicago, or St. Louis) or at least its eventual appearance on HBO or the IFC or the Sundance Channel. Good motivation there for those of us who get tempted on occasion.

Just saw it today. Really brilliantly done. Sadly, I suspect that the sort of health conscious people who participate in this forum will be the largest (no anti-pun intended) audience, and the sort of people who really need to see it won't. That was the demographic in my theatre anyway.

I could hardly go grocery shopping afterwards. And at the head of every aisle in this mega store someone was offering hot product samples: a hamburger, pizza, and some sort of cake thing. I was nauseous and lightheaded just looking at it :!:
