After reading and mulling over Coach Sonnon's 3DPP, Three Dimensional Performance Pyramid (http://www.circularstrength.com/3dpp.html) it is clear to me, a "Sally Suburbia," that this is ESSENTIAL for me too.
The subtitle says "Three Dimensional Physical Preparedness for the Combat Athlete." So at first I took that literally and was reading for sports science knowledge as opposed to applying it to me.
But on the first page I saw the higher level: it is about realizing MY potential as a human being in three dimensions. On the last page I saw it again: "The 3DPP is your Tree of Life, your roadmap and your representation of your personal development towards the Great Work of achieving flow-state." That is for me! I do that too!
And really what is combat but the right use of force against resistance? Again I do that. I use force all the time to prevail in my life (usually not physical but sometimes!).
This book is one of those where once seen and understood, the concepts are with you forever.
This book is theory and philosophy as others have written. Not a how-to. Dedicated readers of the CST Forum will recognize material from the Musings article archive as well as new material. For a literal-minded pragmatist like me this is a dense read; it almost reminds me of recursion as in "Godel Escher Bach." The way the sections are put together, they reinforce and refer to each other, deepening the understanding of each set of concepts.
But I have to say that once having understood these concepts of physical preparedness, my understanding will never be the same. In the few days since I read the total book I have seen application in my life of: the upward flow-state spiral and the downward vortex; soft-work versus hard-work; target fixation; stress level not event; gears and cardio-respiratory distress. The concepts map to real life in a very practical way.
And there is something about having the explanations all collected in the book that is more powerful than getting them one-by-one.
Truly, if you are looking for ever increasing flow-state in your life, and practial ways to get it, get this book!
Respectfully submitted,
