I have never been able to sit on the floor with my legs together in the L position with out pain in the lower back. If I force my self to sit straight and try to touch my toes I feel pain in my hips as well. I was wondering if anyone on here might know what I might be lacking to prevent me from sitting on the floor in L position without a lot of lower back and hip pain

Sounds like your hips are too tight. Coach Jarlo put out a video or two on how to loosen your hips up. Unfortunately, I can't find the link right now. Maybe someone else can provide it.

I'll give it a try. One of the movements in the video is the L position but everything else I see no issues in doing

Just went through the video and I guess my hips are tight but for what reason I do not know. I Take kung fu and can easily do front kicks over my head but anything involving the bending of the waist from a sitting position is near impossible for me to do. The last two exercises on the video I could not do right. The squatting inward hip rotation I could not even get into that position with my back straight and the pigeon pose I can not do it with the front leg like he has it without a lot of pain in the hips. I end up pushing the heel into the thigh to deepen the movement with out the hip pain
