Hi everyone,

I would like to know what your recommendations are for loosening up the sacrum area. My osteo told me that the vertebrae around my sacrum get locked up (leading to occasional lower back pain). Now I'm doing prasara yoga exercises like downward facing dock, flock of pidgeons for lumbar, hamstring and hip release, but it doesn't feel like they hit the area around the sacrum that much.....I mean I can feel that part locked up when I try the old test of sitting with the legs straight out and trying to touch the toes. I've tried normal figure eight mobility drills but to minimal effect. I was wondering if there was anything that hit that area more deeply?

Thanks

Nishan

Nishan,
Have you tried taking a yoga block between the thighs and squeezing the thighs together, then alternate with a belt around the legs to draw the thighs apart? This is done lying on the back, it is the quintessential sacrum, pubic synthesis self release. :-)

Hi Joseph,

No, I haven't heard of that before, thanks! So just, lie on the back, knees bent, block between the thigs and squeeze? then belt around the thigs and seperate eh? Sounds easy enough, will try it. Any one else have any other deep release techniques?

This is just a guess, but I believe the half-locust pose in yoga would release at least some of the tension in this area;

Thanks OJF will try that to. As an update, I'm finding flock of pidgeons to be excellent for this! I think my sacrum might be tight due to tightness in the hips and around the hip joint. The flock of pidgeons is perfect for releasing that tension and I already feel my lower back loosening up and the pain going away.
