I went to the Ortho. today to see about my knee. All is well, the Dr. drained some fluid and sent me on my way. Before I saw the Dr. the nurse took my temp. it came out at 96.5! That seems extremely low to me. Any thoughts on why it would be so low? The temp was taken at around 10:30 a.m. and I had been up since 7:30 a.m. Thanks in advance.

Might be worth a check-in with your doc. Could be lots of things.

Low temp can be hormonal (thyroid). Or short-term body recovering from illness (your knee?) . Or it could be normal for you.

warning! danger zone for carb wars coming!??

When I was playing around with serial-monogamy diets including low-carb, I ended up with lowered thyroid which presented as a lower body temp. (My thyroid function is back up with CST exercise and balanced nutrition).

Brett in his article in CST Mag also talks about him seeing lowered thyroid among other hormonal effects.

I knew that I may start WWIII when posting this. Oh well :) I figure that the most likely reason for the low body temp is the Warrior Diet. The fasting would be bound to drop body temperature.

Yah, call us both Flinchy. could there be another reason? i notice we both thought of diet but really it could be others.

I'm sure it could be. But you and I have witnessed enough physiological changes via diet that it's natural for us to presume. I started the day today with eggs a big salad with olive oil and I feel like I'm running hot (higher temp.). I'm going to eat 3-4 meals a day over the next couple of days and see how it effects my temperature. I'm leaning toward going back to a paleo style of eating. If I need carbs I'll try adding fruit. If the fruit does not have a positive effect, I'll cut it out and add in a carb up or two a week. Funny enough, even following paleo isnt cut and dry. You have Cordain on one side promoting skinless chicken and turkey breasts along with large amounts of fruit and Audette on the other side promoting fatty meats and very low carbohydrates. Cordain is indeed a brilliant scientist but has to stay PC lest he lose his position or the respect of his peers (basically his entire career). Audette on the other hand boasts no academic credentials and accordingly has no hidden agenda. Back to the drawing board. I'll give each plan a shot and see how I feel. Honestly, regardless of how I mix and match foods or shift macronutrient ratios, I feel my absolute best when following a paleo regimen.

Jonathon,

Have you read Kathleen DesMaison's Potatos Not Prozac? If you're concerned about your performance, give it a solid read through and go through the steps.

Gonna pick it up over the next few days Coach.

Good luck Jon! Keep an open mind with Potatoes not Prozac okay? even Cordain allows that paleo included roots - and the roots, or browns, is what gives stability to the sugar sensitive body. Or I should say, appropriate carb fuel including ALL of the carbs on the carb continuum: fruits, veg, roots.

I'll keep an open mind :) I see that you're taking a pro-active approach since you know I am of the low carb persuasion. hehe

I'm kind of the opposite. I'm almost always warm, especially during any sort of exertion. I often sweat profusely at work!

Mike,

Really? And you are following the WD right?

Yeah, but everyone on my dad's side of the family are heavy sweating heat bags!

Mike do you carry a lot of residual tension?

Just curious because I just saw Coach Sonnon speak to an athlete who mentioned being too warm all the time, at the same time as carrying a lot of stored tension (person was brand-new to CST) and Coach said those two were related.

A little in my neck and shoulders. I've been a heat bag since puberty though. Don't get me wrong, if it's minus 30 outside I still need to wear a coat, and I don't sweat when I'm sitting around. But if I'm exerting myself AT ALL, I sweat a lot. And I have a low tolerance to heat, I hate tropical weather!!!

Apologies to Jon for hijacking his thread here!

Mike,

No apology needed. Interesting stuff :)

I've also noticed low body temperature in very toxic individuals (high heavy metal exposure etc.), cancer patients and very immuno-suppressed patients as well.

As Connie said hormonal is one and neurotransmitter/peptide deficiencies are some other considerations or the thermometer was stuck.

Well, it's been about 4 days since I started eating paleo throughout the day. I'm feeling a helluva lot warmer. Concentration is better too.

It's been hot here so I've been sweating even MORE! LOL!
