We have a growing population on this forum. With each new member comes the addition of a new set of trauma we must share and release. Often the chronic chains of tension we suffer relates to abuse: physical, emotional, psychological, sexual...
Have you ever said something to someone and they snapped - highly offended by your "innocent" comment? Have you yourself snapped at someone? If you allow yourself to be sensitive to such things, you know that there is a very important and logical reason to being "politically correct" in language over the internet.
The internet is an emotionally insensitive and bland form of communication, as opposed to the richness of face to face dialogue. This is particular true with humor. Many sly people veil abuse under the guise of humor. Many more conceal self-abuse through projecting humor.
We must take proactive care how we frame our comments on this forum. It's outreaching to those who may not yet be confident enough to leverage out of the coping skill of silence. One offending comment may trigger a tension chain within them, a "flinch reflex," which makes them feel this to be an unsafe place to disclose and as a result release chronic tension created by traumatic experiences.
Please think before hitting the SUBMIT button. Re-read what you've written and when you do... remember that you not only have a safe place to express yourself, but also the responsibility to continually RE-create a safe place for those lurking and for those not yet joined to this forum.
