I was wondering if any of you intelligent folks out there would be so kind as to offer any advice, thoughts, opinions, etc., that you may have in regard to raising my body temperature. I was eating WD style for a while but have switched back to 3-4 paleo meals a day. As of right now, my meals consist of lean protein, tons of veggies, and a good deal of healthy fats. Been toying around with fruit a bit. Anyway, any suggestions you offer are greatly appreciated. Whether it's in regard to diet or sleep, supplements or stress, I'll listen with open ears and an open mind. Thanks.

Are the veggies you're eating cooked or raw? What sort of variety? What meats are you eating specifically?

Connie,

I'm on it. Turns out my parents own the book. Saves me a few dollars :)

Vince,

I eat both raw and cooked veggies. Throughout my first couple of meals I stick to raw salad veggies: romaine, tomatoes, bell peppers, and onions. I usually eat cooked vegetables at night: broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, summer squash, cabbage, etc. I make sure not to eat vegetables like cauliflower or broccoli raw as I've heard that they can depress your thyroid. I've also started supplementing my diet with kelp granules (comes in a salt shaker like bottle).

As far as meats go, I try to get variety but sometimes I get stuck in a rut. As of late it's been chicken. Mostly chicken breasts but also whole chickens. I also eat lean pork and lean beef (top round, sirloin, etc.). I've been starting out the morning with whole eggs.

*None of the food I consume is organic. Not really sure if this makes a difference but figured I may as well add it in.

Did you also get your thyroid officially checked out?
Orem's "Thyroid Solution" has a list of things to ask the doctor, like to make sure he does ALL the tests and not just TSH. Also has info on how to interpret test results.

My sympathies with all this reading.

Bottom line, I bet it is fixable with diet if it was caused by diet.

Add some nuts to your salads. Walnuts would be a good choice. Add a little something spicy to the mix. Either a hot oil vinegrette (cut it with a mild oil so you don't explode) or add some warmer peppers to the mix.

Kale would be a great addition. Add lamb. Learn how to cook it, don't treat it like beef. Think about trying some fish oil capsules. Fish oil specifically. If your meat intake is low, you might need some B vitamins.

Do you FEEL cold? To yourself? Cold hands, feet? Or were just really suprised to find you bt low?

And get your thyroid checked. (I figure if two of us tell you...you might do it...)

....make that THREE people recommending a thyroid checkup. It's very easy to unintentionally burn out the thyroid with bad nutrition, high stress levels or too many nights burning the midnight oil, which is what happened to me.
