A while back, I PMd you asking you some questions in regard to RR. You suggested that I bring the discussion to the forum so that it would benefit others. I could not agree more. Here we go...

I understand the purpose of the potatoe before bed; however, we know the largest output of GH occurs in the initial hours of sleep. We also know that insulin and GH are antagonists and when one is up the other is down. By eating the pre-bed spud, we end up sacrificing a very powerful hormone. What are your thoughts in regard to this trade-off?

For a good deal of time I was following the WD. Based on personal observation, I came to the conclusion that I was harming rather than helping. For a good deal of time now I have been following a paleo regimen and have been eating 3 times per day. This has been working out wonderfully for me and I generally feel pretty darn good (both mentally and physically). I'm reluctant to try your program based on the inclusion and necessity of foodstuffs such as grains and potatoes. Do you have an advice and or suggestions in regard to my situation?

Thanks.

Hi Jonathan,

it is a great question. Remember that I am talking about creating balance in bodies that are skewed by what they are eating. Everything we do is always a tradeoff. Not everyone needs a potato. But if you are a sugar addict, or are dealing with too much beer, or have exercise addiction operating, or are plagued with low self esteem, or have mood swings, or use drugs, then raising your serotonin level may be more important that GH.

I can't answer for you. This plan is a process, not an absolute. Maybe just try little steps wihtout having to understand all the implications right off. Sometimes the intellectual gets in the way of the experiential.

Wartmly,
Kathleen
