Due to other committments in the next week, I made my OCS qualification attempt last night. My "unofficial" results, as counted by me, were:

Mills: 121/121

Swipes: 92

Total: 213

For my weight category, 180 lbs, this puts me just below MS rank. I'm really quite amazed that I got this far in six months.

I picked up my first clubbells, a pair of 10#s, exactly six months ago. I had a very helpful training session with CST Vince Brown right at the beginning. Since then, I have followed all of the advice from the coaches here on training and taken inspiration from everyone here who is doing incredible things with CST. I managed to move through the weights, 10#, 15#, 20#,up to the 25#s. The announcement of the July 31st qualification deadline made me move up in weight more quickly than I would have liked, but I seem to have done pretty well nonetheless with no significant injuries.

When I first picked up the 25#s about six weeks ago, I thought there was no way I could put up respectable numbers in that length of time. My first workout with the 25#s felt like I was starting from scratch again. I originally thought I might get a score of 160 or so. Then as I trained for a few weeks I started to shoot for a score of 190. And then somehow in the last couple of weeks things came together and I hit 213.

I doubt that will be enough to qualify me in the top five for the Mr. O competition, but regardless, it was a great training experience. A couple of people have asked me if i am on steroids (I'm not) because my body has changed so much. What is funny is that in the past month I have had to buy a whole new wardrobe. I was in good condition before all of this OCS training, but now none of my pants fit (my thighs grew and my waist shrank), and none of my jackets fit (my shoulders and back got too big). And yesterday I had to get a new watch band because my old one is now way too tight!

So, I'd like to thank everyone that gave me advice--particularly Coaches Sonnen and Szolek for putting up with all of my picky questions about OCS over the past few months. Hopefully I'll make it to Vegas for the novice division and maybe by then I'll hit my new goal of 220 rep-points for a Master of Sport ranking.

However, for now I'm not going to touch the Clubbells for a few weeks while I get some much-needed rest. Oh, and I have to figure out how to burn my video onto a DVD :?

Coaches Sonnen and Szolek,

Thanks for the support. I hope there is a place for me at the Mr. O.

You should be receiving my DVD in your P.O. Box tomorrow (Friday).

If you should need to contact me for any reason, I put my email on the DVD or you can PM me here.

Thanks,
