Good to see the activity on the forum, my friends.

I had an incredible time on the island, and a significant epiphany. I loaded on a 6 foot wave kayak surfing when a rookie surfer dropped in on my wave headed in the opposite direction - right for me, and slightly above. Six feet may not sound like much but imagine two fiberglass missles traveling towards each other at 15-20MPH each - the collision equates to hitting a wall running 30-40MPH. Nice.

He lost paddle control - actually lost even his grip on his paddle since he inadvertantly got scooped up on the lip of the wave. Careening down towards me, I couldn't pull out without capsizing. I could see the fright across his face.

As the bow of his kayak approached the center of mine, I could see he was going to strafe right over top of me, impacting about 30 degrees off my bow.

What happened next truly startled me, gang. As the bow plunged over my deck, I rolled my shoulder backwards away from its impact. Simultaneously, the other surfer 'found' his paddle lifting it out of the water... in a direct course for my melon. My shoulder already removed, and my tilt already leaning precariously over the right of my kayak, the same arm did a perfect outside Method 2.

His kayak sailed by my without so much as even a scrape against my hull. I could hear the exclamations from the beach they were so pronounced. But no one could be as astounded as me (okay, maybe the other surfer who expected to steam roll me.)

No human fight I have been in was as potentially dangerous as being rammed by a fiberglass missle at that velocity (especially in 6-7 foot East Coast swells).

I realize now that my response time has improved despite that I have been concentrating solely upon CST. Granted CST is the ONLY physical preparedness system ever specifically created to foster combat specific strength and conditioning. However, I hadn't expected such pronounced improvement independent of physical skill practice.

Perhaps this will sound odd, but it inspired me to actively return to the martial art community to share my discoveries... through combat skill.

On the weekend of my birthday, OCT11, I shall conduct a martial art performance enhancement seminar. It will be the first of its kind ever, including an integrated exploration of all of the martial materials I've composed over the years: Shock-Ability, IOUF, Leg Fencing, Fisticuffs, Plural Assailant Engagements, Arthokinetics, Flow-Fighting, Bayonet / Blade Biomechanics, Flow-State Performance Spiral as well as materials I have not published such as Shadow and Touch Response Defense.

I shall preselect several candidates who represent various systems, or who hold key positions to provide vocal exposure of the event. Application will include a non-refundable fee - not all applicants will be accepted. A significant degree of 'hard-work' experience will be required - whether combat sport (grappling, kickboxing, NHB/MMA), military CQC, executive protection, hostile subject control, or civilian self-defense. Additionally, at least 2 years of daily Warrior Wellness will be required; plus working knowledge of Body-Flow, Prime Your Bioenergy and all of the combat materials I've released.

I intend to keep the numbers of this first event to less than 20... though I know that there will be a rush to fill these slots considering how often and many people request events martial related from me.

We embark upon an exciting new horizon for this endeavor will be mutually reinforcing with CST. I shall within the presentation of the material demonstrate and explain the 'big picture' which I have detailed in my martial art pedagogy: the Three Dimensional Physical Preparedness (http://www.circularstrength.com/3dpp.html) manual. This event will obviously comprise both the practice and the 'competition' (facing resistant opponents - within the context of incremental progression AND increasing sophistication.) NO ONE will be prepared for the level of eye-opening development they will receive from the experience... because frankly, martial art exists in the Dark Ages in modern times, enslaved to the proliferation of K.I.S.S. education - an instructional approach meant only for mass introduction to beginner level skills, and who have only a limited time to acquire skills.

I've heard it many times, "I've been practicing martial art for 20 years," when in reality they've only been practicing the first two years ten times over. My event will be however... for sophisticating beyond that introductory level. And the only way to do this is to immerse them in a systematic approach of resistant DRILLS. Their skills will only refine if the 'environment' continues to challenge them. This is what I intend to do... to provide an stable environment in which dynamic quality can flourish. Those of you who practice my materials understand what I mean de facto.

Names. People always crave names. Firstly this will NOT be a 'new' style of martial art. This will not displace your current style of martial art. In fact, this event will help you make the style of martial art you practice YOUR style.

So as to not cause any confusion, this event and its material is MY creation, not a reproduction of any of my prior education in various martial art forms. It will not be "Russian Martial Art"... though I draw heavily from my array of experiences in Russia in all fields: martial art, combat sport, coaching and academic study. So, this will be Coach Sonnon's Softwork: Proprioceptive Martial Art Enhancement.

This excites me greatly, if you cannot already tell from this text.

I'm really looking forward to a video series of the seminar. I am anxious to see what has been boiling in Scott's head.

For "Soft work" for the martial artist, I expect movements like the shoulder waves that could transfer into great punching power!

I expect movements that expand on the four corner drill to give you excellent dynamic stability in the clinch for throwing and for kicking.

I expect movements from Bodyflow that will allow a grappler to use his body efficiently on the mat and expand his ability to go from a stable upright fighting position to a smooth a fluid transition on the ground.

I also expect plenty of hip opening movements that will re-educate your body to exert the most power...most efficently.

I guess Mr. Sonnon will show us how to improve our combat skills, while also reducing a fear reactivity and strengthen our core.

This will probably be the answer to many fighters prayers who do not have people to train with or like me, would like to elevate my skills without putting my body at risk.

The above is only elementary and I can't wait to see what's at the next level!

I'm excited!!!!!!!!!

I'm right behind you on the list Jason. Except I have 22 months to go! Sounds about right to me though.

Good stuff Coach!

Robert is right, it's very exciting!

Coach Sonnon,

:D awesome example of being proactive in a potentially dangerous situation. The other guy was stuck in his reactive pattern while you made reflexsive decisions that saved you both from injury. Bravo :!:

Looking forward to hearing more about all this Coach.

Well, this is what I have been waiting for!

After spending the last couple of years practicing CST, this seems like the logical outcome of much of Scott’s work, and it is something that is very needed in the martial arts community.

I have said this elsewhere, but it bears repeating. What Scott has done is rediscovered the real basis for Chi Kung and the internal martial arts. His work is the foundation for what martial arts are meant to be at their highest level. And Scott has managed to do this in plain, understandable English. He has also managed to take the extremely long learning curve to traditional internal arts and ramp it up in an extraordinary way.

I don’t know if Scott has recreated what the old internal masters did, but failed to pass on in many cases, or if he has blazed his own path to the same place, and fundamentally, it doesn’t matter. What matters is the place you arrive at through this work.

I also suspect that a significant number of martial artists will not be able to get their minds around the material. It will require that a group that is historically tradition bound, conservative and territorial to the point of mania make an effort to think “outside the box”.

For those of us who have managed to maintain a supple mind though, this will be an incredible gift of knowledge.

I suspect that just as Bodyflow is the Yoga of the 21st Century, we will see Softwork emerging as the Internal Martial Art of the 21st Century.

Of course this is just my opinion, but it is one formed by directly investigating the effects of CST on martial arts skills for a couple of years now.

In other words, if you can do this, do it.
