on the swipes, when the bell comes up and behind my back it wacks my shoulder blades, should I bring my arms back more?

Jay,

There are a few technical nuances. The basic nuance to remember for the Performance Swipe (as opposed to the "competitive" or Technical Swipe) is this:

Don't think of flipping the heads (center of mass) of the Clubbells around over your head.
Practice your Armpit Cast more with this performance goal: Visualize pushing the Clubbells up the shaft of the neck while keeping your elbows bent at a constant angle while rotating at your shoulders to move from Order to Back Position. Track the velocity so your backwards projection equals any drop in the center of mass (COM) into Back Position. When one finds the right groove, one actually pushes the Clubbells (nearly) vertically downward into Back Position so that they can be controlled to stop on a dime with no superfluous COM swing ("bang" into your back.)

Once one masters this nuance, then one can move on to the Swipe. The Swipe requires much more sophisticated control because of the increased torque created by the Basic Arm Swing into the Armpit Cast.
