Well, after putting in 3 months with the Intermediate level WW, it's just about time to move up to the Advanced tape. My back hasn't been this good in years. I still get my twinges , and have the occasional bad day or two, but overall the improvement can't be denied. One of the things that has become obvious to me (now) is just how much hip mobility I had lost over the years. I realized that over a period of years I had learned to basically "restrict" the way I moved in order to "protect" myself from screwing my back up.
Can anybody say "Fear-Reactivity"?
The fact is though, that by doing what I had been doing, I was merely setting myself up for repeated injuries and bouts of pain and immobility. The mobility I have gained rom The WW program has allowed me to do simple day to day things that I had steered myself away from for a long time. Yardwork, putting the Air-conditioners in and out of the windows when the seasons changed, etc. As I said in my last post back in July, I was able to go whitewater rafting for the first time in several years without worrying about what might happen if I wrenched my back when I was halfway down the river.
Along a more specific line, while I don't really engage in "martial arts" training anymore, I still manage to put in time on practicing basic self-defense techniques with some of my other aging buddies. Primarily World War II combatives. As a result of my improved hip-mobility/ROM, I have been able to generate much more power when doing such things as basic edge-of-hand blows, and chin-jabs/palm-heel strikes. Also the basic low-line kicks we practice (inside and outside edge of boot kicks) have also improved dramatically. My kicks also being aided by the increased ankle strength and sense of balance I have developed from the 4CBD.
So, within the next week or two I intend, as I said above, to move onto the Advanced WW tape program. With a little luck and persistence I expect to be reporting on my progress again in say, oh another three months +/-. After that, I'll probably go through all three tapes and put together a 15 to 20 minute combined daily program that will keep me motivated and mobile. I also have Coach Chomicyia's Mobilized Strength manual, and I'm thinking January of the New Year would be a good time to give that program a serious effort for a few months.
Yeah, come to think of it, it sounds like a plan to me.
Once again, thank you Coach for putting Warrior Wellness out there. Otherwise, I'd still be lining the pockets of the shareholders at Advil!
