View Full Version : Knee switch ?
Hi guys, I've just been playing with the knee switch and I have found I have a lot of tension in my upper thighs and hips.
Also i've got pain in my shins, but I think that is because i've given myself shin splints after playing basketball for the first time in 8 years on Tuesday.
I have a bit of trouble with trying not to fall back when I make the switch fluid. Is this just a case of practise makes perfect?
My main ? is that I was about to start doing squats and plyo's to try and increase my vertical jump but after having just found all this tension im thighs and hips do you think it would be best to postpone them till i've recovered my movement?
My intuition tells me I should just stick to ww and bodyflow at least for a couple of weeks before trying out the plyos.
Cheers!!
Okay, altered technique and eliminated falling back and shin pain.
What I feel is as though my quads are like elastic bands and that near the top and by the hips they have got mangled, is this what it should feel like?
What is a genral duration of practise for a particular movement?
I feel like doing it all night till the tension has gone but I got assignments to get on with *sigh*
Thanks
Hi, sorry i'm back, took a break from work and played with the knee switch again.
What i'm finding is that as I do it the area seems to get tighter and hot like as if lactic acid is building up and I get worried and stop.
It's as if if I carry on it's suddenly gonna pop and release and relax.
Does this sound like what should be happening?
I'm really enjoying doing it.
Not meaning to binge post, just excited about this exercise.
Thanks!!
Hey, I got my video working again and watched the bodyflow video to see the exercise in motion.
After having been at college for a while I can understand a lot more of what was said during the intial talk.
As I have practised this movement I have felt tension move from the upper region of my thigh up to my hips.
Now I only feel it in my hips.
It feels like I have a new chunk of muscle on my upper thigh.
I have already increased my rom in my kicks and can hold them up their a lot more easily.
My challenge is that the tension in my hips gets quite intense after a about ten reps on each side and so I get overwhelmes with the feedback and stop.
Is this what bodyflow is all about, transcending the feedback loop to an extent to enhance performance by making changes in the nervous system.
I've been reading the book and so I have all the guidelines now on how long to practise for and everything.
Cheers!!

As your posts show, you are learning to listen to your body, adapt your movements to eliminate discomfort/dysfunction, study and practice more to improve your skill, and listen to your body again for more information. This process is essentially what Bodyflow is all about.
This is a process that you probably won't be taught in college, but it's critical to your success in personal practice.
Keeping chronological notes on your explorations will assist you in keeping track of your progress over time. This thread shows a noticeable progression over the course of just 2 days!
Cool, cheers Jason!
Now that i'm into the bodyflow it does seem more important than before to keep a daily record of progress.
I'll do my best but probably wont have the time to do an online one but will deffinitely keep you guys posted with bits and pieces here and their.
Thanks again!

Sounds good, Ed!
Had some more progress. Now I don't feel tension in the hip muscles but I can feel all around the ball and socket joint as if my mind is inside and around the joint.
I guess maybe you could say that as i've woken up dormant motor units and mechano-receptors i've in a sense expanded my mind if you follow the indian philosophy of the mind being a sense.
I'll stick with this movement for a while and progressively focus on refining it in terms of intergration and also train my mental state while i'm moveing.
This is good stuff, i'm really enjoying myself, peace, Ed
