I have been reading up about training with club bells. I am really interested in training with them and have a question.

I have an old injury in my right deltoid that I acquired when I tried to catch something tall and heavy that was tipping over away from me in my line of work. The injury is well over a year old and it still gives me some light pain and weakness in a couple of different ranges of motion. I am not sure if I put a slight tear in my rotator cuff or what. I'm told by the experienced that if I had a real rotator cuff tear that it would be unmistakable and I would not be able to lift my arm above my head. This weakness and slight discomfort is on the right side on the front of the deltoid about an inch above the apex of my armpit...and about an inch inside of where the deltoid and far upper corner of my pectoral muscle kind of converge.

My question is: Will club bell training help me rehab this part of my body and help me regain strength in this deltoid or will it aggravate and inflame the tender meridian? I understand that I must be careful without having gotten a sound medical exam... but I thought maybe someone here would have insight or experience with a similar situation.

Without having a sound medical exam, you can't be sure of the injury, and moreover, neither can anyone remote such as here provide rehab guidance. Any suggestions would be negligent without you having first consulted your physician.

You can have a rotator cuff tear and still be able to raise your hand above your head. I see it all the time.

Please see an M.D., it really is necessary. The shoulder is complex, and your symptoms can mean a variety of things.

Thank you for the answers. I reckon I will just have to have it examined soon. I think maybe its the supraspinatus...from my reading elsewhere...I don't have very good health coverage...so its tough.
I do have coverage thru the American Indian Health Service, but cannot get an MRI through them. Hence, I am having to just tough it out for now.

Self-diagnosis is a danger to your health. Until you know, experimental rehab may worsen the condition. Even an initial sports doc visit costs only ~$50, the price of a date night dinner and a movie. I consulted 3 different health care pros before allowing my intuition to guide my recent rehab. No cost is too high on your health.

Keep us updated on your situation and recovery.

I'm going through shoulder rehab myself and highly recommend consulting with a doctor. Mine put me through both an xray and an MRI, then prescribed rehab with a physical therapist. Rehab has been going well and I have better peace of mind.

See a doctor. Correct diagnosis now can save you years of pain and trouble later, to say nothing of thousands of dollars in corrective surgery if you make it worse by trying to "just work it out".
