Someone mentioned applying bodyflow to swimming on another thread. I meant to reply on there, but I can't seem to find that thread now ;(

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I stumbled across this.

http://www.totalimmersion.net/tao-ti-p1.html

Specifically. the video section

http://www.totalimmersion.net/movies/FF.INTRO.SM.mov
(3MB)

I defy you to watch that and not go "cool.... I wanna try swimming like that ;-)

Other videos link out from -

Don't ask me any questions abt immersion swimming - by viewing the site you know as much as I do on the topic, maybe more ;)

Obviously, I'm going to check out the materials from the library and play with them. Anything less would be thumbing my nose at good fortune.

Suffice it to say, whomever the original poster was - your idea was spot on ;-)

PS: Special irony points - listen to the narration "We can learn to flow at any age..."

In the words of Rakim: "Sweat Da Technique!"

I turned to TI toward the end of my fitness swimming career because somehow I damaged an elbow such that I felt horrible grinding pain on every extension of that arm, which really gets old swimming 500-1000 meters every day.

All I did was read the book, analyze my technique, then work on some of the performance goals Terry suggests working on while doing my laps.

I liked it alot, and the whole-body emphasis did help remove some of the strain on the elbow. It also felt more relaxed and natural than "arm-swimming", and almost like cheating cuz you spend alot of time on your side just gliding. Aaahhhh.

I'm hoping that all the WW and CB's will help get my elbow strong enough to go back to swimming next semester, as I find a positive results from swimming early in the morning when I have way to much work to do and am not sleeping. Plus it feels great and is one of my all-time fave exercises.

Good stuff.

Re: Cheating. It *looks* like cheating, doesn't it. If so, I'm *ALL* for the cheating

Yeah, but in most cases you go faster.

The place where my form started to break down was when I switched to sprints in an experiment I did on myself. Usually I could keep the form up until the last few rounds.

If you had to say, was there a reason as to why things fell apart in the last few rounds? Tension, fatigue, breath interuption (the big 3 that snag me. I swim poorly).

Have you had any luck with apply body flow / performance breathing in water?

I have had some great results with Body Flow and Swimming.

The efficiency learned by your body transfers into all of your physical activities if you are keen enough to recognize and develope it!
There are ways to conserve your energy in any physical endeavor.
Body-Flow is the Key to learning how to do this and Totalimmersion's Swimming is a great example of energy conservation!
